Tuesday 20th December

Headed off in the van to Halswell Quarry, picking up The Cook along the way, then Silverfox. Once there we hooked up with Sandals, Bugs, Tinkerbell, Dozer, Phatboy and Mellonfarmer. We headed around the track then down and across the rock bridge. Somewhere here my tyre started hissing so when we got to the top of the low rise I got out my pump, spun the wheel a few times then hopped on and rode. Gosh tubeless really does work. We headed up the first track all in a bunch, then we went around the bottom of the paddock with some still going steep as they did not realise about the alternative track which meandered up to the gate. We all cleared the zigs and zags before regrouping at the fence above Crocidile. We then headed up the single track. The steep section caught most but a few of us cleaned it all, although I did touch the foot to the ground for the breifest of moments. At the top we headed down Siberia where the actuater for my seat dropper fell off. Phatboy had some tape so we fixed that before heading back. Great run down here with Dozer causing me to get the giggles when he breaked hard in front of me. Down the Crocidile we rode, the new bypass by the shitty rock gap caught us off guard but we all enjoyed the way it helps make the track flow. Up the steep grunt we went but due to so many walking some of the tailenders did not make it. Down and out we went with a little chat at the vehicles before heading home. A cruisy ride in the end.

Sunday 18th December

With Xmas rushing towards us getting a ride in is getting harder but at 8.45am I went outside to find Tinkerbell, Sandals and Silverfox all ready to go. We headed out Down Radley and then across to the Woolston Cut. Followed this across Rutherfood St hooking up with Bugs and Texas at the footbridge. Carried on around the back of Ferrymead with the track in good condition. of course I mean dry and firm as it still has huge cracks running along side of it. At Ferrymead bridge, jackets came off and we headed around to the mt Pleasant Community hall. Mellonfarmer and Phatboy catching us just as we turnt off the main Rd. Quick chat and then we headed of around mcCormacks bay to the Track. Steady climb for parts of it with the steeper stuff catching a few out for a change. By time we got to the Zigzags you had to groups. Those that did and those that din't. I am talking the hairpins. I stuffed each and everyone up. Quick catch our breaths before heading up the road turning off towards the bottom of John britten reserve. Mellonfarmer got a puncture so to give myself a chance of arriving at the top somewhere not to far behind I led off while he, Phatboy and Tinkerbell repaired his hole. Ride, push, ride, push was how I described the climb for most of us. I was surprised to see a couple of hardcores pushing. 1 of them had five reasons which was sure out of character for "he who will not be named". At the top we headed around towards greenwood and rode the first section. Debate raged as whether we would do it all and in the end, mellonfarmer, Bugs and Sandals rode down Greenwood while the rest of us headed down the farm track towards the Pines. Over the road and down towards Clifton we went, taking the new ground Effect track down, then across to richmond Hill and down to Dot Com for coffee. The other 3 arrived and after a brief coffee we headed home at a leisurely pace. mellonfarmer and Phatboy went back along Linwood while the rest of us returned by the route we arrived. A pleasant morning ride for a bunch of tired buggers really.

Sunday 11th December

Went out and hooked up with Tinkerbell, Dozer, Little Ivan, Silverfox and Mellonfarmer. Mellonfarmer on a S/S Pugsley. Huge 4" tyres. Amazing looking beast. We headed around and up Gruntsbury. As I climbed I got a pukey feeling. It got to the point that by time we got near the top, I decided that going home was the better idea. Half the climb was better than none but I was kinda looking forward to Marleys and Hidden track runs. The rest continued on up, went right at the Traverse then up to Marleys and down. Somewhere along here Tinkerbell got a flat. The posse then headed down the Hidden trail. Mellonfarmer reports that the Pugsley went well down the hill.

Thursday 8th December

Xmas ride time. We set off from mine. There was Abba DADDA, Phatboy, Bugs, Tinkerbell, The Cook and I. Rode around to Somerfeild park picking up the Silverfox before heading to Hagley Park, just skirting the edge. We then stopped to breathe in some scented air before cruising the edge of the RED ZONE all the way to Pomeroys. We all started with an Epic Larger. Nelsie, Mellonfarmer and T showed up to join in the merriment. Played Table soccer for a while before people started drifting off home. The hardcore went back to MF and T's place for JUST 1 MORE!!!!

Sunday 4th December

Phatboy arrived with the Trees van and we loaded Silverfox and I in before the drive upto the top of Mt Pleasant Rd. We waited for 5 minutes and then little Ivan arrived. It was hot and no wind even before we started. We rode around to Greenwood and as we all entered the cattlestop my phone buzzed and my chain slipped so I slammed my knee into the bars. Got myself together and then pumped hard to try and catch the others. Stopped just before the ruins then down we went. Phatboy leading and me hard on his tail. Just a fantastic flowing run down, with me taking a couple of different lines into things. It was great. Regrouped at the halfway before the next run dowm. Took me 100m to get the rythm going but after that it was fine. Could feel the Fox on my tail this time. Phatboy slammed the first rock with his ankle before getting to the bottom. Hot it was with still no wind. Grind up the road with the sun beating down. Stopped at the pines for a breather before heading down towards Clifton. Fast fun run down here and we found the top of the ground Effect track. Headed down the Clifton track until we found the beginning of the uphill GroundEffect Track. After Phatboy did some fancy uturns we headed up. It was a great little run and not as steep as I thought it would be. Finally back at the pines we headed back up the road to the Van. Early departure as we were heading to Sandals for her birthday later. Phatboy rode home from here. Later I rode to Sandals in the heat and although took it easy up Dyers I was still wringing went. Overall a great days riding.

Saturday 3rd December

Dozer arrived at Bugs, then we picked up The cook and Sandals and headed to Craigieburn. Got there in time to meet up the sand flies and discover Sandals had a flat, Dozer helped to repair it in no time. Rode along the road in a head northwester then started the haul up the Ski field road. Couple of stops along the way to admire the view then arrived at the top carpark in no time at all. Had a quick bite to eat then up the last little hill to the start of the single track. Bugs found a snow ball and passed it to Dozer who didn't see it coming. Hit the single track with Bugs leading followed by Dozer, Sandals then The Cook. Nice flowing track from here as long as you didn't look left. 1st stop was so Bugs could show the crew where Leanne broke her arm last time he was here. Cross the 1st of many scree slopes. Some riding bit's and some taking there time enjoying the views. Stopped for a regroup on the end of the last scree so Dozer can start a land slide trying to take The Cook out. Took the right track up to Lyndon saddle. Some rode most of it, some walked most of it but all got to the top of the saddle for a group rest. Bugs headed down The Luge followed closely by Dozer, The Cook and Sandals. Fantastic run down here over tree roots, small drop offs and small gaps between the trees. The Cooks handle bar getting a little close to one tree but he managed to stay on the track. All arrived at the gravel road with smiles on there faces. Quick ride down here to a nice feed on Cracker biscuits, cheese and pickles that Sandals has prepared for us. Loaded the bikes up and headed back to town arriving home around 3.30pm.

Sunday 27th November

Went outside to hook up with one of the biggest posses for a long time and that was with Tinkerbell (off kayaking with his woman) and Phatboy (head on pillow) missing. There was, Mellonfarmer, Texas, Bugs, The eveready Silverfox, Dozer, Twopot, Little Ivan, Jandals, Helmut, Sandals and me making 11. We headed around the river in a long drawn out posse, then started the climb up Gruntsbury. No big pace as we new that there would be regroup time needed. Stopped at our usual hairpin in the shade then continued on up for a regroup at the first gate on the shingle. Did not stop long before continuing up to the top. We then took off towards Rapaki on the Mt Vernon track. Nice little blast around and down to a regroup at what you would now call the skid site above Rapaki. Aptly named due to the fact 75% of us all skidded to a halt. Climbed back up the road to the top of Huntsbury and then blasted around the traverse. Regrouped at the usual, and then Helmut led off towards the dipper to show us how to do the new drop into it. Well the big gark on his shin shows us that we should not do it his way. In fact I doubt if any of us ever do it. We then blasted around to the Pines above Vic park before dropping down, via the Rock Garden to the skidder site. We then dropped into Dazzas which is now called Shazza's. Up the 4 wd drive past Helmuts little play area on Rad, grunting back to the skidder then climbing up the steep section, either by the main trail or the walk track, up up up to the Pines and the uphill track for a regroup. Then into the wind all the way back around the Traverse before dropping down to Huntsbury. Down the shingle before going off piste for a while, through the gate and then off piste again to hook up with the little track along the side. Some did some of the jumps, some did none of the jumps and then some did some more of the jumps. No-one did them all. Done the road, into Broadoaks and the Mellonfarmer said come this way. He headed off down some steep steps on foot as we all said, "Oh no a Richard track". It was one of the "Good Richard Tracks". Then down the last of the road straight to the coffee shop where the fat, unfit waitress once again showed why she will never get a tip from us unless it is "Get fit and get a factory job because you suck at this one" served us once again. Then we all departed in different directions. Only 3 of the original posse going past mine.

Tuesday 22nd Novemebr

Got home, rushed around, got ready and then headed out picking up the Cook, over to Silverfoxes and loaded him up. Now my guts started playing up. Drove to Halswell Quary where Bugs, Texas, Sandals, Jandals, Helmut, Helmuts Mate were waiting and then found that Tinerbell and Dozer were at the wrong gate. Organised a hook up then I raced home to the little room for a couple of hours. The trip sounds a bit like this, jandals had a puncture before they started then they went up the hill. Somehwere along the ride 2 more punctures occurred, some waiting for regroups, warm night, no hard out riding. They did all the normal bits, rode Siberia then back down Crocidile with some making the rock, some not, more waiting to regroup then home. Sounds like fun.

Sunday 20th November

Went outside and found Silverfox had arrived. We went across the road and adjusted his brakes while we waited. Tinkerbell and Dozer arrived and we headed off towards Sumner. We went around the river with me setting the pace. good pump around here and then over the causeway. had 2 slow roadies in my sights and kept pumping hard, passing them just before Shagged Rockpile. Arrived outside Dot Com to meet up with Phatboy and Sandals. Already hot before we started the climb. headed up Richmond hill Road. Regrouped at the lookout and then up to the farm track. Warm but good climb. All at our own pace but all pushing hard. Then around the road and into greenwood. After the you go first, I will tailend comnversation it was sorted and off we went. Good pump stopping before the ruins to let a farmer muster his sheep. From here it was a blast down. Phatboy stopped to create his own waterfall and we all regrouped not long after this. Down we went again, I got some lines completely wrong but stayed on. We then climbed back up the road to the pines. Dozer was feeling like I have for 6 months and I saw Silverfox dropping off the front so I dug it in. Nearly killed me and I still did not quite catch the Fox. Down towards Richmond Hill Rd across sheep trails then off piste we went again back to the farm track above the road. Fast run down to Dot Com for coffee. The original four hopped on the bikes and pumped back to mine. By time I got there I was pretty stuffed and the Silverfox was still going like an Everyready battery. Hot and knackered I was!!

Tuesday 15th November

The Cook arrived and we drove up to the meeting spot at Sign of the Kiwi. We were met by Bugs and Texas. No one else around so we headed up the road towards Weorlsey. half way up Sandals went past on the way down to get her helmet from home saying she would meet us for the 2nd loop. We were also surprised to find Phatboy and the middle carpark (he had not read the text properly, but it was good he made it.). He had already done 1 loop and was chomping at the bit for more. We headed up and around at a steady pace to the top of Marleys. A quick breath and then the chase was on again. Phatboy being chased by me, Bugs chased by Texas and then the Cook for only the 2nd time on this track. Good blast with lots of oohs and aahs at the bottom. Up we went for the next loop. All smiles. We came down in the same order for the next loop, excepth The Cook had to chase Sandals. i only scared myself twice this time on a couple of jumps. Up and round again. This time Phatboy jumped in the middle and I led off. Great blast at good speed. We regrouped at the middle and then headed down the bottom half to the Kiwi. Some work has been done down here. Not sure if I like it all but once again cleaned it at good speed. Weather was getting cooler by now so we all went our separate ways. Phatboy and Sandals back up to their cars. Phatboy with a guitar on his back. Thought he could carry one up the Croesus next time to serenade us all at the top.

Sunday 13th Novemebr

Bugs, Dozer, Tinkerbell (not the one in the green miniskirt that sprinkles fairey dust everywhere) and I headed around the river, through some sidestreets to Worsleys Rd where we hooked up with Sandals. The plan being to do some loops of this and B Trail. Well the track up was muddy. Dabbing was not optional and no one made it with out pushing. My tires got bigger and bigger until they looked up like having front caliper brakes. very messy it was. Push, ride, dab, slip, grunt and then ride, push dab, slip all the way to the flat below body bag. We then got sticks and scraped copius amounts of mud off, chains, gears, tires, frame. My bike was then at least half the weight it was on the way up. We then went and played on B trail. Stopping and looking at different lines on rocks etc. Huge numbers of walkers through here so no longer is it hidden. i had an off when I hit some slippery mud and after fighting for balance lost the battle. Pride was hurt but that is all. We got down and due to the time and greasiness of track headed off for coffee. Enjoyable morning.

Sunday 6th november

I walked outside to find Phatboy had arrived and then Dozer blasted down the road in his car. we mounted up and rode around the river and then onto Centauras Rd before heading up dyers and stopping at sandals. I held onto Phatboy for all of half the climb but then he headed of into the distance. We hooked up with Silverfox and sandals before climbing up to Vic Park. A decision was made to climb up Old Dyers which was a first for some and ages since for others. Phatboy burned it up and the rest of us went up at quite a steady pace. Good climb for a change. Up Summit Rd and then a blast down Marleys. Holding onto Phatboy. I thought Silverfox was on my tail and worked hard to loose him only to find it was some other dude that I burnt off. We regrouped alongside some large posse before heading back up to Worsley. Down the body bag, up into the B Line. Great blast down here by all of us, then down the road into the last off road track. Really let rip in here and then we decided that we had plenty of time so all of us (except Silverfox) zigagged and zagged our way into the new Cashel Mall. Some somber moments looking around before blasting back home. Got tooted at twice by motorists. They must of liked our arses. A really good ride. You could tell that the others were still fit from the trip and I was happy to say that I did exceptionally well for me. did not drag the chain on the ups.

Tuesday 1st november

All the boys were not riding. Resting sore bottoms. The Cook and I went out and started up Gruntsbury. We were both feeling good and I stood in the pedals moist of the way. As we rode we talked and decided to get to the top of the road then head down and look around the new Cashel Mall. Before we came down we also rode all the up streets on the hill. Felt good but some sights were pretty sad. More broken homes than I realised up there. came down then McMillan Ave, Tennyson and then Colombo St all the way to Cashel. At this point I realised I forgot to let Sandals and Helmut know what we were doing. They were up in Vic Park. It was interesting having a look around town with so much missing. Loved the new mall and think this on a larger scale would be so cool for our city.

The Annual Trip Report, 25th to 30th October 2011

(Links for each day to Mellonfarmer's)
Day One, The Journey and a "Leg Stretcher"
Phatboy and Dozer picked up Mellonfarmer. Tinks picked up WeirdlittleSilverfox and Sandals and Helmutt. They drove north and inland.

The Lyell
At Inungahua they turned right, up the Buller a ways, over the IronBridge and onwards a few kms pulling into the wrong carpark. Then finding the right one...

An easily made wrong start was made, but it seemed like the right start at the time, and the riders progressed up a very steep at times track to a wicked old cemetery in the bush, before a cool descent to a bridge. then it was a lot of steps to climb up to the Old Dray Road. This track climbs and climbs and climbs and a groove just has to be gotten into and everybody got into that groove and climbed and climbed and climbed. For two hours they climbed, each in their turn, cursing Mellonfarmer for this "leg stretcher". Eventually a slip was got to, miles after the 8Mile point MF thought was the end (thats what the book said!), and so they'd all had enough, and turned tail and flew down, loving every second of it, forgiving the curses earlier poured. Ride number one, a resounding success.

Westport for the night. Great food from Alex Hastie of The Pines.

Day Two
Britannia
Drizzly start, so no Denniston, so a little further north and up to a roadend and once again, up up up. this time, narrower, steeper, rootier, slippery-er. into the clouds. hour and a bit climb to about 600m, turn around and scream back in like 10 minutes (was more but felt soooo much quicker compared to the climb).

Delicious lunch at the Drifter's Cafe in Granity.

Charming Creek
Up the Ngakawau gorge on an old railway. Sleeper city. Spectacular vistas, waterfalls, coal, sulphur seep, flat boring bit, techy interesting bits, tunnels.

That night, THANKS BRUCE for the Whitebait feast. Silverfox's first time ever eating Whitebait.

Day Three
Denniston
The crew bolled on out of the Accommodation in Westport within a drizzly morning, thinking Denniston might be a bit damp, but a couple kms north of town they drove out of the rain and into nearly sunshine. On up the twisty road and parked up at the museum. cool breeze greeted us rocky, 4wdrivey, sections of excellence, must-do bridle path down.

to reefton, excellent accommodation

Blacks Point
relentless climb on easy track, then not quite as easy track, then some down, and lots more up and downs and ups, then the best fricking downhill ever followed by some good stuff and switchbacks and hot brakes.

Day Four
Kirwans
The weather was right, so Buggs made the calls and the Chopper was to pick us up from the end of Boatmans Rd just after 9. A first time in a whirly-bird for several in the group. a few minutes flight to Kirwans Hut, first load with MF, Sandals and Helmut, plus the thousands of $$$ worth of bikes swinging on a rope below. Two more loads reunited smiling faces with their machines, and off flew the chopper, roughly an hour after he'd left base. a long way down.

>>>the rest of this post will be updated as and when i can get to it<<<

Waiuta
Pretty stuffed from Kirwans, not to mention previous days riding, so we took a while to get it together for this one. Phatboy even had a wee kip i believe... And Sandals piked out, having ridden the trail before, and so that she could stay home and cook for us. (and a very nice meal it was too, except for the fact that some theiving bastards had stolen half our mince!!!).

So. Waiuta. long road in, driven, to the cool old minimal remains of a ghost town, and on up more gravel for a km or so to where the vehicles parked. 4wd start section, climbing up to a very sculpted gravelled track which progressively became more like other tracks we'd been riding. to mellonfarmer's mind, it was most like the Lyell only a bit muddier. Climbed for a while then levelled out and we were all so stuffed it was almost not fun, other than kaka flying over and bird song. So, overall, i'd say its not as fun as you'd think, but still pretty good. At 5 minutes to 6 we turned around and headed back. Mellonflatter stopped to pump up his front tire and the others all got away on him, so once back on the trail he wound them all back in one by one.

Then him and Helmut (with helmet) rode the road out. fast, gravel, blind corners, fun.

Day Five
Croesus
Bestest track ever, just about

Hanmer
Meeting up with the others and Rubberjoors has covered it

The weekend of 29/30 October.

Picked up The Cook and Headed up to Hamner to hook up with the rest of PFMTBC who had been on the annual trip. We got there and headed out. We headed up the Flax Gulley Track (a first for us) which was a nice steady climb and really enjoyable. From there we did Swoop track onto Majuba and then up Timberlands Trail which is short but steep. Had a rest here before then Climbing up Jollifes Saddle Track. I was a bit annoyed on not getting the last hairpin. We stopped for a bite before heading down the otherside. The Cook had an off on the first Switchback but other than that it was a fast blast down. Across the footbridge and then climbed upto Deetox. A fun but of track but not really worth the climb in my opinion. Then up part of Mach1, down dogstream and then we climbed up Jollife Rd before doing Red Rocks which is a fun swooping track. Headed back to town for a bite where we then Hooked up with Twopot and Lance. We then drove the ute to the bottom of Threshold before starting the climb to the top. Steep track and we pushed some of it. At the top we pushed up an obscure extension. This was really steep, unrideable up sort of track. Ended up on a fire road before coming down. This was a blast, whooping and hollering. The Cook did have a surf and an off but survived to tell the tale. Down into the rest of this high speed and challenging track. Loved it immensely. From the bottom The Cook took the ute back to the House while the 3 of us rode back. Showers and beer while we waited for the posse. They arrived about 6.30 and we went off for dinner and back to the House for lotsa drinks. The morning arrived way to soon but we cleaned up and then mounted up for a ride. Nelsie had arrived to join us. The Posse now consisted of Nelsie, Mellonfarmer, Phatboy, Bugs, Dozer, Silverfox, Tinkerbell, Sandals, Helmut, Texas, The Cook, Twopot, Lance and myself. Up Flax Gulley then we went up Yankee Zephyr (Great down hill blast), across the Swamp, up Timberline, Down Red Rocks, up Dogstream where we broke into two posses. A few went and did Deetox while the bulk headed down Mach1 and then started the climb to Threshold. We rode all the road to the second firebreak, stopping for a rest 3/4 of the way and then whooped and hollered our way down the track. Down the rode to town for a bite before hopping in the vehicles for the drive back to town. For me and the cook 2 successful days of riding. For the others it was the end of a long week. Hoping one of them will fill in the details of their trip on here.

Tuesday 25th October

With most of the team already away on the trip I went out with Bugs and the Cook. We headed up Gruntsbury. The road was ok but by time we got to the steep stretch I was very tired. We continued upwards at a slow pace (thanks Bugs). At the top we went around Mt Vernon with me leading. Now I felt good. We then headed down towards Rapaki. Once we regrouped we noticed no sign at the top so we headed down the track. Still lots of people using it. At the bottom we discovered it was fenced off with a big sign saying Closed. (they need one at the top too!!!!) I then dropped a spoke. We headed home with me dropping the bike off for spoke, rear cluster, bottom bracket and chain. Also going to look at brakes too! I will be ready for Saturday at Hamner.

Saturday 22nd October

Bugs and texas arrived at mine and we rode over and met Dozer outside silverfoxes. Only the four of us as everyone else was, working, transporting, organising fixing, getting repaired or visiting those already holidaying. So as i said the four of us headed around the road to kennedys Bush. We trundled around the track at the bottom and then climbed the single walking track to the paddock, grunted up the muddy paddock and then up the little switchbacks. All cleaning them. The road took us to the fence and we then debated single track or gravel track. We chose the gravel track which was sensible as you could see the single track as we rode. It was under water. We then did Siberia down to the gate and after riding through the muddy bit here we started the long grind up. I even managed to ride up the lot. we then followed dozer up the steep option where texas and I dabbed before passing through a number of angry cows before the last few bends before the steep rutty section of the climb. I gotta admit i did not ride it all, in fact no one cleaned it all but they got close. We stopped for a bite at the road before trundling around and up to the top of the body bag. Down here we went with me finally being in front. Up to the B line we went and then bugs led us into some wet track. It was very wet and slippery in a lot of places, sliding and having fun. Plenty of smiles and mud flicking. At the bottom we finished on worsley and then down the road to the last off road section which was also fun, fast and slippery in places. we loved it. Dozer peeled off to pick up his car and we all met up at the garden center cafe for coffee and discussions about next years trip. great ride, me 35kms which i am happy about.

Thursday 20th October

it was my first ride in 4 weeks and I was looking forward to it, albeit with some trepidation. The posse which included Texas, Bugs, Phatboy, Tinkerbell, Sandals, Helmut, The Cook, and Dozer all headed up Richmond Hill Rd. The main part of the posse at a steady pace, a couple racing ahead and then there was me trailing at the back. At least I kept up with Helmut who walked a good half of it. A quick stop at the top where I led off towards the gate to the fourwheel drive section. The next section saw Phatboy and Tinkerbell race ahead. The Cook and I kept up until the wet section below the cliffs where we stopped for a couple of minutes before regrouping with the others below the shearing shed. From here I took the new shingle track while the others either followed or cut across the old track. At the top we chatted before heading down towards Clifton Tce. The track was damp and slippery. I led with Phatboy on my heals. The rooty section was interesting with many comments about slippery roots. Just how they should be!! We then went down and across to Richmond Hill for a fast run down to Dot Com by 7.30. From here some of us popped into the brewery for a quick Beer before heading home. It felt good to be out on the bike and I did a lot better than I thought. Bring on kennedys tomorrow.

Sunday 9th October

TexasHold'em, Sandelabra, Silverchair, Dozer and Tonkabelle, met at Bugg’s house. Both Bugg’s and Dozer with brand spanking new machines, Buggs a phat Giant Reign, Dozer remedying his Jamis affliction with a Trek Remedy.

They rode round back of Ferrymead shops, up Mt Pleasant, down Greenwood (which was open), back up Summit Road to pines, down Richmond Hill into valley. They stopped in Sumner for coffee, then rode back to Bugg’s on the road and round back of Ferrymead shops again.

Was a good ride, a lovely day.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the plains, Picton, Mellonfarmer and Phatboy went up the Blowhard (with pics!), which involves a lot of going up, steeply. but then, also has one of the best downhills there are, ever.

Saturday, October 1st

Possibly, Silverfish, Sandalada, Buggs, Dozey, PhattBoy, Texaus and Tinks, maybe went up Worsleys, did a blat of the Nun to kiwi and back up over Worsles and down out the B-Line, maybe, Tinks thinks...

Tuesday 27th September

Buggs, Dozer, Silverfox, Tinks, Texas, The Cook, Mellonfarmer and Beckyboo rode Ferrymead singletrack, Mt Pleasant Rd, Greenwood, top of Capt Thomas, Evans Pass Rd to Sumner and back via Ferrymead singletrack. Lights were used for the lower half of Greenwood, but daylight savings had banked us up the hill and over a bit. Several of the posse were sporting new bruises by the bottom of Greenwood. All in all, i believe everybody enjoyed their rides.

Tuesday 21st September

My last ride before my trip. I was hoping for the hills but alas the tracks were at avoid so we went out to Bottle lake. I picked up the cook and met Bugs, Texas, Mellonfarmer and Phatboy who were all early by 5 minutes. We headed out the normal route towards North Beach stopping for regroups along the way, then along the beach to the new cut. carried on, me a tad slow. Not long after we had the most interesting thing happen. I was trailing along at my own pace and due to this took a cut out to meet the lads before heading into the last section to Spencer Park. The Cook was not in the group because he wondered where I was and due to this he ended up riding by himself while the rest of us split into two packs to try and find him. Wventually we made it back to the cars where he was waiting. made a boring track eventful.

Sunday 18th September

Mellonfarmer hooked up with Tinkerbell, Dozer, Silverfox and Phatboy at Rubberjaws and the five of them headed up Huntsbury. Good climb, good pace, and beautiful day. Bombed the Traverse (after Phatboy had returned to the start (not collecting 200$) to fetch his sunnies), all on good form, the Thompsons, some greasiness here, then up road to top of Worsleys. Due to short time -- down this and into the B line for much hooting and enjoyment. no major offs and everybody was peaking on their performances. at bottom of Worsley's the arm on phatboys's sunnies broke, indicating he should have lost them to start with... bombed down the road, then the sideline even faster than ever, and then round river back to rubbahjawn's and home in respective cars.

Saturday 17th Septemeber

I headed over to Tinkerbells on the bike. Head wind all the way so good pump. Around the new stop bank into Bexley Reserve where about halfway around I met up with Dozer and Tinkerbell. Rung mellonfarmer and decided to meet him at pages Rd Bridge. We continued on the stop bank, arriving just before he did. Continued down the stop bank which is like riding downhill but having to pedal. Finalling acheived the Anzac Bridge where we were hailed by Texas. Around the stop bank to basset St. We then headed down to the planting at Traverse Wetland and joined maybe 150+ people in planting 2000 plants. Then it was back to the river and stopbanked all the way to Gayhurst Rd where we then hit retreat Rd and to his temporary house for a chat. I then headed home via Stanmore while the others headed east.

Sunday 11th September

Silverfox and The Cook showed up at mine and we headed off to Dot Com to hook up with Tinkerbell, Dozer, Phatboy and Bugs. Silverfox was on his old Jamis as his Yeti is broke in the frame so now yeti riders can not joke about jamis riders. We headed up Richmond Hill road, stopping just after the 2nd hairpin to do some gear adjustment on the Cooks bike. This was his first Sunday ride with us and it was a steep grunt. We made it to the top and took the farm track up for a change. First time I have riden it when dry. Much easier than when wet. Up we went to the pines where we rode to the beginning of Greenwood and after a regroup we headed off towards the ruins. Track was in mint condition and we did it at good pace. At the ruins we regrouped and waited for the Cook. He was doing ok and had only one off leaving at bit of skin behind. First time on Greenwood for him too!! Then Phatboy led off, me next then Tinks etc. Good run through here and we regrouped after Gloomy Gulch. Managed to see the Cook step off over the handlebars. Nice recovery. Then down we charged again, fast, furious and loving it. Stopping at the double rocks to check them out for a change. Phatboy giving the Cook directions over the last rock but whoops did not quite make it. Slipped down the rocks, knee gash and a handle bar to the chest. He got back on and came on down. We the rode up the road to the pines. from here we headed down the tree rooted section and onto Clifton Tce for a look. Good run to Dot Com for coffee. Drove home by 12.45. It was here that the Cook took time to look at his chest. Damaged nipple and nipple ring. Hurts he said. Dam right it would. Great feeling of success as I felt good all afternoon.

Tuesday 6th September

Drove over and picked ip Silverfox and headed up to Sign of the Kiwi. met there by Tinkerbell, Dozer (with a flu) Texas, a subdued Helmut, Sandals and shortly there after by Phatboy, Mellonfarmer and a newbie called.....Becky Boo!! We headed up the road to the top of Vic Park. Some went up the upper thompsons where we regrouped. Sorted out a feeding order and off we went. Spread out all the way to the halfway where we stopped and oohed, aahed and chatted before the next climb up from the pond. A bit of shuffling occured around the rocks but we regrouped again by the road. Around Mt Vernon we went (Me actually gaining on some people, wow I am good as the Tui ad goes, yeah right) I and a couple of others pulled out at the top of Farm Track while the others dropped down to Rapaki. We all made our way back up to the Traverse track for a regroup. My light had given me a warning that the juice was low. Blasted around the Traverse, regroup and then onto the Top of Vic for a regroup before blasting down Thompson to Kiwi. We then rode up to Marleys at various speeds, some fast some slow and some bloody slow, ooops that was me. Then came the blast down the hill. The fast ones first follwed by the others. I dropped in behind Tinks and kept the pressure on until my light gave a warning. Then carried on, loving the down flowing, jumping and whooping. Past a stopped Mellonfarmer then carried on towards the Kiwi. Just into the last jumpy bit with a corner and all of a sudden my light became a strobe as it ran out of juice. Whoa nearly crashed but recovered and finished slowly which cramped Mellonfarmer, sorry dude. All in all a bloody good night ride. Still I need to get fit again.

Sunday 4th Septemebr

Smallish posse assembled at Sandals 10am for Fathers Day celebratory ride, being Sandels and Helmut. Waited for late comers, none showed, 1.30 loaded bikes and off to Mt Grey.
A clear still sunny fresh winters day, snowy tops, blue skies, stunning views, the 4wd road climb almost enjoyable. Near the top, but below the repeater, we left the road and clambered up right to find the ridgeline. Turning our bikes downhill and rode off-piste the poled ridgeline, fun games and challenges, back down to the Fire Lookout station. From the building we picked up the zig zag singletrack and decended down through a broom. The track was snowed and muddy, but my new tyres gripped and clung like sucky things, making it a joy and fun. The overgrown broom however was a pain, on the hands, in the face and eyes…. Further down, into the open pine forest the track sweetened up heaps with wonderful flowing sections. Unfortunately recent snow fallen trees interrupted this joy and added some clambering struggles. Good to get out however and a new track for me. A good one to do again, perhaps into the season when the track has been cleared a bit though.

Tuesday 30th August

Smallish posse assembled at Rubber's, being Phatboy and TheFarmer, Tinks and Buggs, and Foxy and Cookie. Rubber doing the familial again. The Riders headed Hanson to Huntsbury. Clambered up there then hit over Vernon, back up road and blazed down Farmtrack. Been a long while since Farmtrack had been indulged in. Short but good spin. PB and MF stopped by Pom's on the way home.

Tuesday 30th August

The boys met at mine (I was not riding due to family commitments) and the headed up gruntsbury. Phatboy, Bugs, Tinkerbell, Mellonfarmer and the Cook. They hung a left around Vernon. It seems they enjoyed it. Then back up and down the Farmtrack. The Cooks first time on both tracks. Then back to mine where they hopped in cars and went home

Saturday 27th August

A planting at southshore so Phatboy, Dozer, Silverfox, texas and i set off from mine and headed around richardson Tce, down Radley through the cemetry, across the fence, through the other cemetry onto keighleys Rd then down behind the poo ponds, right onto Breezes and across the bridge. We then took the track along the river heading towards southshore. Nice little spin and way ahead of schedule saw us stop for a bereak along this stretch. back on the bike and carried on to the end of Rockinghorse rd. We planted at the southshore reserve (between us about 250 plants). Tinkerbell arrived to help. Afterwards we all headed off in the reverse direction. At bridge st we headed across the road and follwed the stop banks. Tougher going as some of this was a bit soft. Tinkerbell pulled out at new brighton bridge while the rest of us ploughed on. The stop bank was real soft and rough. We went down onto the old track which had some major cracks and some shitty mud. Carried on over wainoni Rd and texas pulled out at Anzac dr bridge. once again oohed and aahed t the damage. Carried on over some broken pathways, dodging cracks and spinning through more shitty mud. This was all hard work. testing it was. At burwood bridge we crossed over and spun along Avonside dr. Some real shitty damage done around here. A dead zone among the red Zone. Dozer and I stayed on the stop bank as long as we could before joing Phatboy and the fox on the road. Continued around to wainoni Rd. Dozer pulled out at Cuffs rd. We carried on up Kerrs with phatboy pulling out at Woodham. The Fox and I spun hard down to Opawa where the Fox continued on his merry way. A hard ride in the end and i thought it was gonna be easy.

Tuesday 23rd August

Posse of boys assembled at Rubberjawn's - being Phatboy, Mellonfarmer, The Cook, Tinks, Buggs, Texas, BeefStew and Weirdlittle. Alas, Rubberjaw's couldnt make it. The posse trotted off round Hansen Park and on up Huntsbury. The Cook was dying and threatening to bail part way up Huntsbury Ave but was convinced to struggle a little further up and enjoy the downhill of Major Aitken. Once on the dirt, patches of snow still lingering, a few bits of slop but dry lines to choose most of the way. Once at the summit runners and other bikers came off Vernon. The Posse took off along the summit towards Vic Park finding the odd puddle, but overall the track was way dryer than it was wet with too much fun was being had. Then into the top of Vic, and down the quagmire paddock into the rockgarden into the gummies. Couple of dodgy slop-festy bits but high dry lines ridden, and the little squirelly left hander was fun greasy with Phatboy offing on the steep corner and Mellonfarmer offing on the next. All bailed out early to the skidder site, down through Vic Park into the dog park down through the gates and along the barbed wire and roots loving every second. Out under the houses mixing it with the vegetation in the top section and a new section of gravelled switchbacks leading further than ever before. Mellonfarmer then led them down someone's drive and through an empty section down to Holliss for a fast tarmac buzz into the cold of the flatlands and home.

Sunday 21st August

Most of the snow has gone but tracks are closed. Still we need to ride. Tinkerbell, Dozer, Texas, Bugs, Sandals and Mellonfarmer met at mine. We headed around the river behind Ferrymead, (track was slick with a few snow damaged branches overhanging) to the bridge. Nice little warm up really. Stopped to wait for Mellonfarmer and got rid of excess clothing. He showed up with the Lovely Better Half who was out to visit a friend. We then headed up St Andrews Hill for a change. Up and Up it went steeper than Mt Pleasant Rd but with a few flat spots to regain your breath. All went well. I was still a bit slower than the others but went much better than I thought I would. We ended up on the top half of Mt Pleasant Rd where we continued on to the top. Some youthful members did stop to throw snowballs at passing motorists. Down towards Evans we went stopping at the Pines. From here we went towards Mulgans Track. Interesting with some slip, some slide and some laughter. Sandals had a wee off, then as we went over to Richmond Hill I had the bike completely sideways. Lucky I was. From here we went down the road admiring the horrendous damage to some houses. Stopped for coffee at Cot Dom before riding back to Ferrymead Bridge. Back along the towpath we went where I managed a long slide before doing a chest dab in the mud. No injuries. A good ride considering no tracks open. Even got mud on our bikes.

Sunday 14th August

A posse of lads ande a lass met up at thye Foxes and headed up Worsley. Hit the muck and decided to go up the B line which was better. They then rode, slid, pushed and pulled their steeds up the Body Bag. The lass went left along the traverse into vic and home while the lads went right, down Kennedys, The Crocidle before heading home. They all managed to get home before the shittiest snow storm ever hit.

Sunday 7th August

Off to Orton Bradley for a planting. Silverfox and I drove over to Lyttleton where we hooked up with Tinkerbell, Dozer, Phatboy and Mellonfarmer. After a nice cruise across to Diamond Harbour we rode around to Orton Bradley arriving early. We then rode and viewed some earlier plantings. Discovered a few areas with plants laid out so 3 lads grabbed some spades and in pairs we planted. After sorting out about 100 we stumbled on another area and got stuck in. The weather then started closing in and jackets went on as the southerly came through. Another team of planters arriverd just in time to finish the planting. We then took advantage of a tale wind back to the Harbour. With 20 minutes up our sleeves we rode the cliff track. Ist part was a but dodgy but the 2nd part was a great blast. Caught the ferry back and then home for lunch

Tuesday 2nd August

Phatboy, Phatboy-Jr, Phatboy-Nephew, Weirdlittle, NiceOne(Stewey)(visiting from Nelson), Buggs, Texas, Dozer, Tinks and the Farmer of Mellons hit up Halswell-that-ends-well Quarry, the lower part of Kennedys, Siberia and back down the Crocodile. It was great for them all to get out. the wee up after the bridge on the Croc was a mucky greasy disgusting mess, but the rest of it was good. no one had any offs, tho Weirdlittle was complaining of lack of traction in places. Afterwards they went to Weirdlittle's house and met The Cook and RubberDrawers, then Sandals and OneMadMaori to discuss October event and to drink a little beer and eat some pies (THANKS Di and Tony!).

20th July

I picked up Silverfox and Sandals and headed up to Sign of the Kiwi where I was hoping to find Phatboy but no. I drove up the hill and he was not there either so drove back down to Kiwi and he had arrived with the Little Phat. We headed down Old Dyers. Phatboy, Little Phat, Me, Silverfox and Sandals. Phatboy had light issues and as I caught little Phat he cut in front. Nice run down here, sketchy being the best word. Regrouped and then headed around, across dyers and climbed into Vic park. Silverfox had a gear problem that Phatboy fixed. little Phat played on the jumps before heading up the grunty section (we took the walking track beside it) Up we went panting and grunting. Past the jumps park and up the Worm to the top. We dropped down Thompsons which was fun as usual. Climbed slowly to the top of Marleys. Same downhill order as the first but the Phatboys swapped order. Little Phat had light issues so Phatboy stopped with him to sort it out. I continued down with Silvefox chasing. What a run, screaming down here holding on, all of a sudden i seemed to pull away. Turns out Silverfox stopped. I continued as hard as I could all the way to the Kiwi. Sketchy, getting the jumps and loving the moment. The others all rolled in after a bit. Awesome ride. We then went home happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday 17th July

Wow what a day. If you were not there you missed an awesome ride. Phatboy picked Sandals, Silverfox and I up on time and we headed up Mt Pleasant Road. We hooked up with Te Rex (he rode from Hornby) Dozer and Tinkerbell. We headed around John Britten Reserve and regrouped before coming back. Ages since we went both ways here but very enjoyable, all pumping hard. We then headed up the first bit of Greenwood. Once again all hitting it at pace, feeling good and the gap from front to rear rider was less than usual. We regrouped at the farm track before the ruins. Headed down this and then cross country to the top of Jollies Bush for a look. We headed down this interesting little track, enjoying it. Some awesome steps and I was pleased to master one lot. Yahoo I was on a high. We regrouped at the road where Phatboy wondered how to get over an attack of native nettle (Onga Onga or Urtica ferox). Up the road to the Pines. We then headed down this track for a change. Phatboy led to the first fence where we all stopped and had a laugh about everything and nothing just cos we could. I led off followed by Silverfox who was charging. Down over the fence and then down the side of Clifton (I think it was Clifton). We have come up here but never gone down. Exhilarating and at speed awesome. Feeling good we headed down across and up onto Richmond Hill. Clambering up here following the sheep trail then up and up to the road where we climbed up to Greenwood ruins for a bite to eat. Everyone feeling on top of the world. The weather was perfect, the sun was shining and we still had a good downhill to go. Phatboy set off at pace, closely followed by me then the fox and others from there. Fast we were not missing a beat, until a regroup point where the Fox had to fix a puncture. We watched some other riders go through and as we had time we cheered one who attempted the rock challege near the end twice. gave him a cheer. Phatboy then led off again with the pack in the same order. I made a mistake of following too closely and missed the rock climb (dabbed at the top) due to having to bleed off speed. We were flying. Stopped for another giggle and a look over the harbour before climbing back up to the top. I was not as good at the climb as I was at coming down. Phatboy and Tinkerbell cleaned a nice nasty section on the way. Regrouped a couple of times. I failed in the technical section and walked across the slope to miss the worst of it to my shame. Still better than recent excursions though. From here we blasted across the top section and back to the cars. All in all a great ride and it will become a regular route maybe mixing it up and doing different directions. fun, fantastic and oh so fast. Enjoyed it all.

Sunday 10th July

Silverfox arrived bright and early and we drove around to Phatboys. We hooked up with Mellonfarmer, Dozer and Sandals (with Shoes). The six of us spread out in 2 cars and headed out to Mt Grey. Mellonfarmer said we would like it so most of us were a bit wary. This had been said before. It turns out he was right and I put it down as the 2nd best ride this year. The first being the Rameka at New year. We had a pleasant drive out and unloaded at Lake Janet before heading up Mt Grey Road. As we rode up we could see the snow sitting on the top and it was a tad cold. I stopped and walked a couple of times to stretch the back but this hill is 100% rideable. It goes up and up. At the top we passed all the aerials etc before mellonfarmer led us onto some snow covered single track and I was in heaven. This was sweet track and I felt at one with the bike. The switchbacks (and there are a few) were the downside but these were made up for by the long flowing stretches, weaving in and out of trees, hardpack, rocks, mud and tree roots. it had everything. We all enjoyed it and at every regroup people were smiling. Fantastic feeling. It was sad to finish really but we did. We then headed back to the cars via the road. Mellonfarmer got there and bought the ute back for poor little old me. I was nearly there but it was kind. Good choice MF and we will do this more often.

Tuesday 5th July

I picked up Silverfox and drove out to Mcleans Island where we hooked up with Mellonfarmer, Phatboy, Twopot, The Cook, Tinkerbell, Dozer, Bugs, Te Rex, and Texas. 11 of us makes a big posse. We headed in and those who could go flat out took off while the rest of us broke into groups and hit out at best pace. Regrouped once then carried on. A few took the extra river loop while I carried on followed by the others. We stopped at the overpass and waited (felt like forever) for the fastboyz to catch up. Took off around the Coringa Loop which started working our legs over those awful lumps. Regrouped and back to the carpark. This ride was about fitness more than anything and although there was lots of frost about it was really enjoyable. I felt like I went better than Sunday and so I am happy. We will be meeting regarding the trip at Phatboys garage on Thursday 14th

Sunday 3rd July

Finally a day to really ride. Phatboy, Mellonfarmer, Bugs, Tinkerbell, Silverfox, Dozer and Texas showed up at mine and we headed off in the frost. It was so cold my face hurt. We headed up Gruntsbury. Everyone feeling the first climb in ages and me feeling the effects of my back to go with it. In fact me holding everyone up was more than likely a good thing for most of the team. We eventually got to the top where we were joined by, Sandals, Helmut and Jandals. We headed around the traverse which was very enjoyable. I picked my own pace and everyone was full of smiles at the two regroup spots. Down Thompsons and then a qick toilet stop at the Kiwi. Climbed the road to the top of Marleys before we headed down. MF, H, and PH all did the full loop while the rest of us did the top half only. This was greasy but oh so much fun. I did not even stop for a regroup but just started the grind back up. Not feeling flash at this point. We all regrouped at the top of Worsleys then down the body bag and into the b route. This was enjoyable and we all did the bottom half for a a change. Nearly nutted myself getting off the back of the bike. We then went down the road and onto the side track at pace before heading home. People all dropping off as we went to end up with just Bugs, Dallas, Dozer, Tinks and I at the end. Nice to be out but all comfortably worn at the end.

Sunday 26th June

Well after what seems like months a gaggle met at mine. Mellonfarmer, Dozer, Bugs and Tinkerbell. Due to rain and wet tracks we rode out to Sumner via the south side of Heathcoite River inspecting damage as we went. Quite amazing. Checked out Whitewash Head before going to Cot Dom for the coffee fix. We then returned to my place. Not once did we gewt wet but it seems it rained in town a few times.

Saturday the 4th June

Hopped up to numerous messages telling me who was not riding. Bummed out a bit as it meant when we got to the tree planting i had to work harder and I was already in agony with my back. Mellonfarmer and Texas were the only 2 to show up. We headed up Gruntsbury. Me struggling with pain and it just seemed harder than ever. Finally got to the top and headed around the traverse. Things seeming a bit better but still not as quick as i could. Down Thompson's and then a squeeze through the no go zone on Summit Rd. Started heading up towards Marley's when I stopped and checked my wheels. Found that after putting in new pads the brakes had not been backed off. could not even get 1 complete revolution out of my back wheel. Corrected this and hey presto felt much better already. Damage had been done though and I was stuffed. Got up to the planting and Mellonfarmer stayed to plant 10 trees before heading off. Texas and I stayed on until the end. left about 2.30 and headed down Marley's. had a good flight, nice and loose all the way. Stopped briefly at sign of Kiwi then down below Dyers we went. Loose, slippery and sketchy but oh so much fun. From here we went down the road before riding into the wind. Just what was needed. All in all a success.

Tuesday 31st May

Drove over to Worsley Rd and up to the bottom of the track. Hooking up with Tinkerbell, Texas, Bugs and Dozer. Started the climb. I was riding like shite. Wobbling along but I did not dab until I could blame Dozer for cutting across and taking my line. He of course says it was due to me mucking around. Who can you believe the guy typing or the person who is not on line. The truth is he was just out to get me and had no regard for my safety while aggressively cutting everyones lines. Now we can continue. I continued to wobble up the hill. We were all sucking air like crazy. The lines were just not happening. Wobble dab wobble dab. Not enjoying it at all. Finally made it to the bottom of the bag where we headed off to the b line track. Bugs led off for while I started to get some vision going. Got better and better as we went. No falls although I am sure that Dozer did give himself a fright. Kept going and enjoyed it quite well. In the last section Tinkerbell led us up the gharden path and we lost the track. Finally found it and I threw in the towell. In fact we all did. The plan was to have another loop, but no we headed down for coffee at the Foxes where I was taught to use my manners.

Sunday 29th May

A cool morning but a lot planned. Phatboy picked me up and we headed up to Evans Pass. Waited there for Bugs, Dozer and Texas who were dropped off at the top of Greenwood. They arrived mud splattered and telling us about the horrid conditions. We then headed around the Godley head track. Conditions were awful. A bit of slip but the sun was singing eyeballs and we could not see much. Lots of dabs. Then we stopped for some repairs to Bugs brakes. On we went. Riding better now as the sun kept climbing. Above Breeze Col we told the workers we would be back to join them soon. We continued to godley and then straight back to breeze Col. We were tasked at building a rock ride. We were succesful but absolutely stuffed. We were joined by The Lone Wolf and then Sandals. Fun in the sun, rolling boulders, cutting track and testing. Took longer than we planned but great to finish. Sandals, Phatboy and I headed back along the trail while the Lonewolf stayed on to do more track work and the other 3 dropped down the snake and from there they went to Dot Com where we all had coffee. Sandals, phatboy and I had a good blast back. I took some old tricky lines for fun and just had a blast on the downhill run. Stopped at the 2nd team of workers. They were tidying the lines on the first nasty climb. This will be interesting next time. I then rode down the hill, very quick, and hooked up with everyone at Cot Dom

Tuesday 25th May

Drove and picked up the Silverfox and headed up to Sign of the Kiwi where we hooked up with Bugs, Phatboy and Mellonfarmer. We headed up the road to the top of marleys. As expected I was making a slog of the climb. Will work on the problem. 2 extra bricks on my stomach!! Mellonfarmer led off followed by Phatboy, me and then the other 2. Phatboy pulled off with light issues and I kep on going as I had some sort of off balance flow on. Enjoyed the work they have done is the rocky section. Will look forward to riding it in daylight to really learn the flow of it. Anyhow I pulled out at the halfway carpark followed by Silverfox, Bugs and then Phatboy. Mellonfarmer was like a good girl and went all the way down, before coming back up gasping. He caught us as we rode back up to the top again. 2nd run same order and I still finished in 2nd as Phatboy had light issues again. It was a battery pack falling loose. Grind back to the top and went into the track same order. We were rolling much better by now and were going all the way. Phatboy at least got into the bottom half of the track before moving over with the same issue. I went past and even scared myself a couple of times before pulling out at the Sign of the Kiwi. Not the first time I have pulled out here. We regrouped then chatted with Abba before loading up and heading home. Good ride in nice conditions.

Sunday 22nd May

Phatboy, Mellonfarmer, Silverfox, Dozer and I set off from home and headed round the river along the edge of Ferry Rd where it is really cracked up, behind the industrial area over lots of cracks. We hooked up with Tinkerbell and The Night Nurse as we went. Headed up Mt Pleasant at a quiet pace as the Night Nurse was a newby at this sort of thing! At the T intersection we headed down the McCormick's track. Nice fun run although slippery on the mown grass. At the bridge we regrouped while the Night Nurse dismounted into the flax for a close up view. Carried on down at a good clip and then back around the road. We took the option of the far side of the Heathcote by the Pa and Heritage park before arriving at TFC for gloves to wear while planting many many trees. All in all a good wee ride considering we were planting until 12.

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Tuesday 17th May

Phatboy, Dozey and MuthahFarmah spun Bottle Lake. Twas a quicky.

Monday, May 16, 2011

Sunday 15th

Silverfox arrived at mine and we went to the gate where Dozer arrived. Even though it was raining we decided to give the plan a go. Threw the bikes in the back of the van and headed around to Sumner. Through all the detours and then about to start the drive upto Evans. The road is closed. I had checked all the bloody websites and it was not mentioned. Sent out the texts to meet at Dot Com. Phatboy, Tinkerbell, Sandals, Jandals and Helmut showed up. We had coffee and chatted about options. As we looked at the rain we decided to can the ride. headed home where Phatboy and I worked on lists for the partay!!!

Thursday 12th May

Some (Choirist, Helmut, Sandals and Jandals, and the Farmer of Mellons) rode up a lot of hill and then down one. it was good. details details details...

Saturday 7th May.

As Mothers day was gonna prevent me riding Sunday and I thought that tracks would be closed to boot I decided to ride Saturday. I loaded up and drove over to Dozers. Got his bike loaded and the 2 of us headed out to Bottlelake for a blast. With the no go zone in place we headed right to wards the Parklands side of the forest. Dozer leading at a good steady pace. Got to the rise and the lookout quite smartly. Looked at the work going down before I led off. Up and down, breathing hard all the way to the beach. We then headed back along the pace through a large area that stunk like nothing I know. Finally able to turn left and hook up with single track. Dozer led and we raced on through to the turn to Spencer Park. had a breather and then started the grind back. Stopped once to loan someone a pump before the final straight back to the carpark. Conditions were overcast with some light drizzle but we stayed dry. The track was in pretty good condition too. A few puddles but otherwise firm Enjoyed it very much. We then went and helped Phatboy shift.

Tuesday, May 3, 2011

Tuesday 3rd of May

Phatboy and Mellonfarmer drove to the top of Worsleys Rd and rode up through fog and sticky sticky mud that got stickier and stickier as they progressed. At the bottom of the bodybag they hung a left and headed up the fenceline and onto the sweeeeet singletrack that meanders down the ridge. they slipped and flowed over rocky features, roots and pineneedles. At the big cliff they turned back up and rode the trail, fun up too, to the high point where they turned back down and flowed and skidded again. on past the cliff and on over more cool features and cool corners and then down under the pylons and off to the right, which turned out to be the wrong, so they carried back up on the right and down over that cool drop and on over the whoopdedoos and nearly over a massive drop but then found the good way down, steep, full on braking controlled descent to the finish. back up the easy path to the rickety wallride, on down the singeltrack in the trees over the last drop and out onto the stickiness and back to the car. all up almost an hour and a half of riding. good to get up the hill even in the poor conditions.

Monday, May 2, 2011

Sunday 1st May

Silverfox and Bugs met at mine and we rode over to Phatboys old place to meet up with Dozer. The 4 of us then took off down around the river, down Swanns Rd, Draper St, Heywood Tce, Fitzgerald, Bealey, Barbodoes, Francis Ave, Philpotts Rd then onto the cycleway along the motorway before turning down the cyclway towards Styx Mill. Finally after 20 kms we got to the planting site on Husseys Rd. We were met by Phatboy and his darling debbie. Helped plant about 1500 plants before I got stung, not once but 3 times by wasps. We then had a bbq before setting off for a cruise through the reserve which was pleasant. At Styx Mill rd Phatboy and his Darling split for some shopping while the Big Four headed back along the cycleway all the way to Monavale. Silverfox split here while the solid Three went thru hagley park, down Armagh, thru Cramner, Montreal then Salisbury, Barbodoes, Kilmore, Avonside Dr with Bugs and I nheading down Stanmore onto Nursery. Finally I went up Wilsons onto Opawa while Bugs split down Ferry. About a 40 kn round trip with the planting in the middle. Good headache and pain from the stings.

Sunday 24th April

Phatboy picked up Dozer, The Cook (Robins first real ride on a hill) and me from mine and we drove out to Little River and met Sandals and Jandals. Mellonfarmer arrived and parked up his car for the later shuttle to get the main vehicles. We then drove up to the Hilltop and headed to Pettigrews Road. We then started climbing and then we climbed some more. The Cook was pretty well over cooked on this uphill. Great views to be had all the way. Finally some flat through loads of shit and then down some. Then across some nice techy single track before climbing with some pushing to the next peak. Then down and down and across some paddocks before grunting up another hill. Then down and across before yet another little climb. From here it was down to the top of the Port Levy Little River road. From here a fast shingle road all the way to the bottom. Great track over the top but a pity it looses all its altitude on the road. The cook only splattered himself 3 times and Phatboy met his old mate, "Bush Lawyer". When we got back to the village it was time to eat. Mellonfarmer then shuttled Phatboy and sandals to their cars before he drove back to the Little Akaloa Bach. They came down and we all went home. Good ride in fantastic conditions.

Tuesday 19th April

Silverfox drove Buggs, met the S.S. Mellonfarmer, Phatboy and Dozer at Bottle Lake. They turned right, cos left was closed, and they enjoyed the ride through except for the stink of portaloo juice as they climbed for the Gazebo. Then it was out to beach, most cleaning the sandtraps along there, then along further than usual, and in to the singletracks again where they could, then back round eventually to the start. No one had an off. No one hit a tree. Bugg's hand is recovering well. Some got wet feet. All were home around 8, nice and early. The punters that missed the ride, didnt miss much, but still it was a good ride nonetheless.

Sunday 17th April

After heavy rain and a shake disturbing more rocks we decided to avoid the tracks a do a town ride. Phatboy needed to gets lotsa photos for his Dad so we rode the fenceline of the red zone. Pretty amazing sites in town. There was only Phatboy, Dozer, Silverfox and myself. We not that Airforce stations had luxuries like beds, Tvs etc while the army had camp chairs only. Whos toughest or who is smartest. Stopped for coffee and home by 1 as always. A simple day.

Tuesday 5th April

Was wet all day, nearly all tracks closed and even McLeans would of been pretty soggy so a Road ride was called. I had Bugs, Silverfox, Big Tex, and the Cook arrive and we headed off to Mellonfarmers where we were joined by Tinkerbell and Dozer. We oohed and aahed about Mellon's new road rider and then headed along river road. Our streets of Christchurch are just so broken arsed. It does not show on any news broadcast how bad it is out there. I was riding on the right hand side of the road and the left hand side was at shoulder height. Sewer pumps everywhere with broken and empty homes. As we road down Locksley Ave I counted only 2 inhabited homes out of over 60. The new pathway is a stop bank as the river either is higher or the banks are so much lower. The stench of the river was bad. As we neared the Avondale bridge the tar sealed track was so broken and in some stages it was only the seal left with no earth underneath. Back around Avonside Drive with the same problems. Huge rents in the earth, new and raised stop banks. At the eastern side of Kerr's Reach we saw a house that was on an angle. The structure looked fine but one side of the house was off the ground by a good metre. We continued and as we got further the track were crossed by huge wheel eating cracks. The Cook got a snake bite in one of them. We ended at Pomeroys for a round of drinks before heading home. I can not say the ride was nice because it quite a sight out there.

Sunday 3rd April.

1st ride under Standard Time and lets think who got up early, Tinkerbell and Sandals. N E way. Tinks, Dozer, Phatboy, Silvefox and te Rex met at mine and we headed round and started up Gruntsbuury. Just after the closed section Mellonfarmer finally arrived and at good pace we headed up. it was quite warm and we stopped for a blow at the Aotea bend. Up we went, grinding ever upward, me still not on top of things and finding it a shitter climbing. carried on to off road and continued up. Hooked up with Sandals and Helmut at the top before a brilliant blast around the traverse. Into Thompsons where I went into the 1st hairpin so fast I lost it and had to dab. Funny it was and had to move over so others could pass. Silverfox peeled off at Kiwi while the rest of us headed up to the top of the Nun. Had a wee stop before heading down, MF and Hel going all the way together while the rest stopped at the Carpark and headed back to the top slowly to allow the other 2 to catch. I am sure they went really fast cos they did. Done the Worsley B line. it was fun with good techy lines. Stopping halfway for a good look over the plains. Carried on down and somehow we lost Te Rex. Finally found him and then we carried on down. Nice run down the singletrack beside the road. Then home. Stopped and waited for Sandals and Helmut so we could say Bye but they shot off in a different direction. Great ride.

Tuesday 29th March

A quick ride before attending the trip meeting. Mellonfarmer, Abba, Sandals, Te Rex and Silverfox arrived at mine and we headed up Huntsbury slowly. Amazing damage was seen as we climbed. Phatboy caught us near the top of Aotea Tce. We continued the grind up the hill. I am just so out of sorts climbing at present which annoys me. Up up up. At the top the boys tried some sheep herding. We whizzed around the Summit trail as the light grew dim. Dropped into Vic pines which were dark and no visability, down the Rock garden then on down the road to Sandals. Hooked up with Thumbhook(Buggs), Tinkerbell, Dozer and The Queenstown Goat. Discussed the trip. We are going to go to the coast this year. 5 nights. Time to organise accommodation.

Sunday 27th March

Woke up to a light shower and considered calling it off, but I thought it would be OK. Phatboy, Mellonfarmer, Tinkerbell, Dozer and the Silverfox all arrived. We hummed and haaed about what to do and settled on our plan to head up towards Greenwood. Around the river we went where it got pretty interesting as the bank started to break up a bit. Added to the fun as we rode over some deep renders in the bank. Started up Mt Pleasant after removing jackets and me cursing my knew pack which had a problem. Grind Grind we went as we looked at some of the broken homes. Carried on up and then I hit the wall at the 2/3rd mark. Just felt stuffed. must of been the late night before. Tinks stayed with me as we rode into thickening cloud. At the regroup (top of the road) we all thought that the rocks were gonna be interesting and sketchy. We were right. The first part had lots of slip and I dabbed a few times. Glasses steamed up which did not help. At the ruins we sorted out an order and headed down. Track was in great condition and the rocks were sharper and less slippery. Only one wee boulder on the track in Gloomy Gulch. Stopped and chatted with Nick and track builders. Felt guilty for not joining in. Continued on down past another group and out onto Evans Pass. Good blast down the road into Sumner. Looked at the bottom of Marleys from the road and some big broken trees and boulders where we would normally ride. Coffee at Dot Com. Bugs joined us and showed the pin they removed from his thumb last week. We then blasted home along the causeway and then back along the bank for fun. Good ride all in all.

Tuesday 24th March

Tracks at avoid yet again. Driving me crazy. Phatboy, Dozer, Abba and The Cook (on a new bike and out for the first time ever with us) arrived at mine. We rode over to Silverfoxes, looked at his crack again...(he told us EQC is going to fill it for him, and hes looking forward to it.) It goes right around the house and even the windows have cracks around them. Sandals and Jandals arrived. We then headed via different streets to Hagely. Did a circuit of Sth Hagley, then crossed over and did Nth Hagley. Went and had a look at Arts Ctr, then St Elmos Court then rode by odd means around the edge of the cordon. We ended up having to ride part of Hagley Park back to Bealey Ave. Rode along the medium strip to Manchester St, then Salisbury then around the river to Fitzgerald and then to Pomeroys. Nice drink before we all split at differing times.

Tuesday 15th March

Mellonfarmer arrived and we headed around to pick up Silverfox. Stopped and oohed and aahed over his crack...s in his house. Pretty Big but house seems to look somewhat straight. Mellonfarmer and I thought that the timber framing was solid even if the blocks weren't. We all then headed up Hackthorne, and Dyers to the Sign of the Kiwi where we were met by Dozer. Cold wind blowing and rain threatening as we headed up the road. Helmut was at the Marley's car park and we all continued the amble up the road catching Jandals then hooking up with Sandals at the top. Helmut led off followed by Mellonfarmer then me then the others. Helmut pulled over along the way so passed him. Had a good run down to the car park where we all regrouped. Jandals headed down and we all headed up for another run. Same order coming down but I think I rode it better this time. Mellonfarmer and Helmut had pulled up at the car park but I continued down towards Kiwi. They dropped in and gave chase catching me at the long brake less stretch. I got all the little jumps along the edge. Felt pretty good but can do better yet me feels. We regrouped and as I wanted an early finish and the weather was cold we all headed off. Sandals, Helmut and Mellonfarmer heading towards Vic to get down into Cashmere. Short but good ride.

Sunday 13th March

Yes a ride. Tinkerbell and Dozer met at mine and we headed through the broken arsed streets to Sandals. Interesting ride. Hooked up with Sandals, Jandals (Ben), Helmut and Silverfox. Rode the steep drive behind the house then up into Vic Park where Tinks and Helmut got told off by rangers for riding on a walking track. Oh so naughty!!!! Then up the steep track behind the skidder site then cut across and went up the rock garden. That was nutty. Up the uphill track to the summit and then down Thompsons. Feeling good. Up the road to the top of Marleys where we let it roll. Awesome to ride again. Nothing like attacking rock jumps, twists and turns to make you feel normal again. Then back up to the top of Worsley where we rode on down. I took some good techy lines staying in ruts and generally attacking the track. Of course I did not watch where the others were riding but they were enjoying the track too. Down down down and then out. Rode to the old Coffee Culture for coffee before heading home. Felt good and normal.

Sunday 20th February

I set off from mine on my lonesome with music in my ears. Headed around the river, down the track behind Ferrymead with wind in my face. At the bridge it was time to hit the tarmac. Onto the causeway stiff easterly in my face and I decided to chase down a guy about 100m in front. Managed to catch him just before the end and as the guys who were riding drove past on their way to Cot Dom. Finally got there just as Te Rex drove in. The posse of Phatboy, Mellonfarmer, Tinkerbell, Dozer and Texas were all waiting to go. We set off up the Ct Thomas. Steady climb with Te Rex, Mellonfarmer and Phatboy charging, Tinks in between the the sensible 3 following at the tail. Climbed well getting most except when he who will be named blew a couple of techy buts to slow down the events. We made the top in not bad time. Then it was time to ride up Greenwood. This was the first time in a while for most of us and had never been done by a few. It was quite a nice climb. Stopped in Gloomy Gulch before climbing to the top for a bite. It was then time to come on down. Mellonfarmer, Phatboy, Tinkerbell, me followed by the others. Charging hard, keeping on the tail of the guy in front before Phatboy punctured. Stopped to fix this then rode onto where the others waited. Continued charging. I was feeling great and stayed on Tinks tail all the way. On down ct Thomas failing the 2 usual rocks. Tinks stopped and I charged past him slowly gaining on the front 2. Only caught them at the end due to the amount of people on the track. Into Cot Dom for coffee. I found out that Dozer had an off on the way down and dented his bike. Phatboy left and we were Joined by Bugs and his lovely wife Mrs Bugs. I then jumped on my bike and literally flew back with the wind in my back. Good ride.

Tuesday 15th February

I picked up Silverfox and headed over to the main car park at Halswell Quarry. Hooked up with Dozer, Helmut, Sandals, Tinkerbell, Phatboy, Junior, Mellonfarmer and Cuz. Also appearing out of no-where was Abba. We headed along the track avoiding dogs and people and then instead of heading up the valley track Mellonfarmer said lets head up this way. Short sharp shock that it was. Fun and challenging really but I got to the top as did everyone except The Cuz who had an attack of asthma. Must be caused by the cancer sticks he smokes. Up the little steep Zigzag and onto the road. At the top of the Crocodile it was straight down. Good run down here by everyone (I even cleared the little rock shoot that gets me every time) until we found Junior dusting himself off from an oopsy. No problems really and we all continued down. At the bridge we regrouped and then climbed back up the crocodile. Some did their sprint thing. I cruised up with Dozer and The Fox. Enjoyed the slog and cleaned it nicely. We then climbed the next bit and on up to Siberia and down to the gate. Abba did his usual and disappeared by himself, taking the short way home to his love and a meal. That's right he rode up Kennedy's rather than riding with us. The rest of us headed down, down down avoiding Betsy the Cow then down the Croc and up the other side before getting back to the cars. Junior was there riding his bike backwards for fun. I discovered my leg was bleeding for some reason. pulled a large splinter out of it this morning! not bad for 1.5 hours of mid week riding.

Sunday 13th February

The posse of Bugs, Dozer and Tinkerbell arrived at mine and we headed over to meet up with the rest at Silverfoxes. Arrived and shortly after we were met by Phatboy. No Fox as he was sick and No Mellonfarmer. He had a hard night and was more than likely Piss crook although we have no physical proof other than a text saying he got home at 4am. We then headed around to Worsley where we hooked up with Sandals and Helmut. Grunted up the track beside the road (well all bit one) with Dozer looking as if he had a steroid breakfast until he gasped and stopped. Up the road we toddled and then onto the off road climb. Tough as usual but oh so enjoyable. At our normal corner for a rest, Helmut took the steep line (impressive) and while we got our breath a guy I know caught up. (Marty a web designer). We all rode on from here. Cleaned the next section for a change and got up to the bottom of the bag. Once again Helmut impressed with some incredible lines up from the main track. Up the body bag where Dozer and I failed due to our minds telling us to stop. Marty went straight back down. Up to the top of Marleys where I went straight in and Phatboy gave chase. he closed a bit on the top half but not on the bottom. I got all the jumps this time, loving it and just kept going all the way to the Kiwi where we regrouped. Dozer had a slight body dab on one corner but no damage. Up to the top of Vic we rode chatting with Nick Singletrack at the top. Into the run down we went some going down Sesame while I and others went down through the gums. Great run to the skidder site. Then down Dazzas (Helmut went his way) and we then took the track to the left. (do not know its name but we rarely do it) It has been tidied somewhat and is quite cool. Later may do some of the little jumps but this time took the B routes. At the bottom jumps we regrouped. Mmmm thought the others were taking a bit long then Dozer showed up saying Bugs had come off. Thumb was bent out of shape. Bugs arrived saying it was not bad and he would ride down and no do not get an ambulance. We all rode out together skipping hidden valley as we were with Bugs. On the tarmac we let him ride home alone while we stopped for coffee. Final report is after waiting for ages at the hospital he Dislocated his thumb...but thats not all. He broke it and has now proudly got his first cast. 3-4 weeks it will be on but he hopes to ride before it comes off. We will see.

Tuesday 8th February

Wayne, Dallas meet at Warren's then rode ova to Rapaki where Marie was waiting in the shade. Headed up Rapaki till Dallas decided to chat up some girl for 10 minutes at the end of the tarsel. Wayne & Warren powered up from gate to the top gate clearing everything in a tad over the 11min 33 sec record. Dallas and Marie were not far behind. Road up Mt Vernon track with some of us clearing most and some not. Hit the Traverse with the other 50 odd riders. Meet some guys who had decided to stop on the rocks at the top of the Lava flow to admire the view which slowed us all down. Clean run the rest of the way to Vic park. Down the Rock garden to the car park. Down though the trees from here showing Dallas a more challenging way. Up hidden valley with us all clearing the creek and most of the climb. Nice run down from here with everyone grouped together. Good hot ride and home by 9pm
