31 December 2012 the Final post....of the year

Wellwith the ending of another year we decided on a short sharp blast as "Just one more". A small posse of Dozer, Texas, The Cook, Phatboy and I headed up Huntsbury at a steady pace.  Climbed well until the top of Old Skool.  Stopped in the shade a couple of times along the way.  Then it was a quick blast down the hill.  Some of the technical lines between the hairpins were over grown but what the heck.  Into the single track which has had some good work put in.  The only problem was I was in my normal glasses instead of my wrap arounds so watering eyes.  Down in no time and home to prepare for end of year celebrations.
Also this was a record blog year, outstanding.

Thursday 27th December

I drove around and picked up The Cook.  We headed up St Andrews Hill, Mt Pleasant and stopped at Upper Major Hornbrook where we were met by Phatboy.  He was looking tired, and I was feeling like I had eaten to much on Xmas and Boxing Days.  I was a tad excited to test out my new wheel so I led off up the hill.  Riding in a bigger gear than normal.  Only problem was my aching knee!! We plowed up here and after scoping new lines into John Brittain track we blasted through here regrouping on the road.  Felt  really good at this point.  Down to Cavindish saddle before hauling up the track.  Still steep and but only tacky after all that rain. Regrouped at the top and then up the last stretch of shingle before leading down towards Greenwood.  I have mastered the  rocky corner and starting to gain speed through the tussocks going down.  Regrouped in a cold wind before heading out towards Mt Pleasant road. The Cook reported a fall onto his back on a rock after hitting a tussock.  I then led off at a good clip cleaning the rocky  section.  Phatboy had a wee tumble but after closer inspection he had a sizeable lump on his leg.  At the road it was a quick turn around riding a reverse of the track ridden so far.   Good pace by all of us really.  Cleaned most of the sections but near the steep rocky  section I had a double knee dab after failing to clean a hairpin.  Regathered and put jackets on at the top before blasting down wards to the saddle, then up the road, into John Brittain and then down the track to the vehicles.  A great ride in great time.  Very pleased with my wheel and I noticed better momentum a few times, ability to ride in bigger gears so a long trip should be better too!!

saturday 22nd December

I got picked up by Dozer bright and early and we drove to number 5 Worsley rd.  We were met by Sandals and Helmut.  We then rode down down Hurunui St collecting Tinkerbell before heading down Opihi St then onto Cashmere Rd.  We followed this all the way to Halswell Quarry, racing some road riders along the way.  I led off up the new track beside the Crocidile.  A first time for me.  This is a great alternative coming out onto the Crocidile above the shite  switchbacks.  Continued on up with a regroup at the top.  Into the next section with one dab by each of us on the way then straight into the top section down to the gate.  We then rode up Kennedys track to the top.  Sandals and Helmut were virgins to this section.  A good steady climb, feeling good even in the top sketchy section.  We then went around and down the body bag before the team showed me the F Line.  Awesome track that I will get faster and faster on for sure.  Then down and out.  Great pre xmas ride.  Always good to do something knew and even better when you do something old well!

Tuesday 18th December

A short Xmas ride to Pomeroys.  Dozer, The Cook and Bugs showed up at mine and we headed off towards Silverfoxes place.  Met him and Tinkerbell and the park in Studholme St.  From here we headed towards Hagley which we skirted before diving through town and arriving at Poms in plenty of time.  We had apologies from Nelsie, Mellonfarmer, Wee  Fi.  Phatboy arrived with a few reasons why he got things wrong, Sandals arrived even later for a short appearance.  At closing we headed off for 1 last walk through what is left of The Hayes old house.  Lots of it is now gone.  After the regular just 1 more we rode home to our respective houses.  A good night was had by all.

Sunday 16th December

With the weather predicted to be hot we decided to get out nice and early so with that in mind Tinkerbell picked me up and we headed out to meet the others at Dot Com.  In short order Phatboy, Sandals and Dozer arrived.  The five of us set off up Richmond Hill road at a steady clip with Dozer setting the pace.  It was warm all the way and we stopped in the shade of a tree juat before the Greenwood Subdivision, (just after the last steep section).  We then trundled upwards the last section of road, over the gate and started the grind up the  farm track.  Stopped in the shade of the tree alonf the way before I set the pace up to the top of the dirt track where it becomes shingle by the shearing shed.  Ambled up along here regrouping at the shade of the pines on Summit Rd.   After dodging falling pine cones we trundled up the farm track to the intersection of greenwood track, turning right on the tail and heading back towards Mt Pleasant Rd.  Great little blast here and regrouped in the shade.  It was well warmed up by now and I was sucking in the water.  I chatted to some people and the others headed up the road, forgetting to  do John Brittan along the way.  I gave chase and upon catching we headed down to the saddle before I led off up the new Mt Pleasant track. Grunty to start but then stayed at a steady pace to  the top where we had a break.  Nice run down the other side to  the top of Greenwood where we regrouped.  Another large posse started before us so we waited until they were out of site at the corner past the ruins.  I led off with the thought of catching them all before the bottom.  Great blast all the way knowing Phatboy was on my wheel.  Chase and chasing, catching and passing.  Got held up a couple of times but ended up passing over half there group.  In the last stretch we were hauling ass but 4 of them managed to beat us down.  We then climbed up the Godley track, with Phgatboy showing up a young boy racer on his bike.  The heat was getting to mus and we had plans so we decided to blast down the Taylors Track.  Tinkerbell had a wee off on the way but no injuries.  lovely little stop at Dot com but we were all home by 12 or shortly thereafter.

tuesday 11 december

Met at Halswall Quary carpark. Dozer and Sandles were waiting when Bug's and The Cook arrived. Headed up to the new track that starts where the Crocodile track finishes. Nice ride up the new wide track that cuts into the Crocodile about half way up. Up the rest of the Crocodile with most of us clearing the rutted switch backs. Stopped at the gate for a chat before hitting the single track up to the pines. Nice ride up here with most of us running into trouble about half way up where there are some extreme ruts on the steepest climb.Down the rutty single track to the pines at the gate then about turn and back up the single track again. Sorted a ruff order with Dozer taking the lead and down we went. Nice ride down over the rutted out sections with no major issues. Hit the Corocdile with Dozer in the lead and Bug's hot on his tail. Into the new track half way down which turned out to be very fast. Found out why they put white tape on one pine tree. Finished at the valley at the bottom then decided to ride up the bottom of the Crocodile. Sandles lead the way up with Bug's, Dozer and the cook following. All but one made it up here with out the dap. Down cross the bridge then pumped up the switchbacks to the start of the new track. Another flying run down here with no major issues. Down though paddocks and back to the cars around 8pm. Nice ride on another new track.

Sunday 9th December

A truly awesome day for a ride and I was feeling on top of the world.  Dozer, Tinkerbell, Sandals and Helmut.  We headed up Gruntsbury then around the Traverse, down through Shazzas, Brents, Bridges, Flow then up the Hidden Valley Track to Ols Skool and out.  All by 10.45.  I will never ride that  fast as you get cold waiting for the others to catch up.  Hidden Valley was overgrown which made it testing.  I cleared all the hairpinns.  helmut hurt himself on a fence.  I decided not to say how good I rode or anything else.  Awesome ride overall.  Everyone did good.

Tuesday 4th December

An awesome night for riding.  collected The Cook and drove up to Upper Major Hornbrook where we waited for the others.  Phatboy, Mellonfarmer, Dozer, Bugs the Tinkerbell and Twopot.  The biggest Posse in a while.  We took off up Lower JB.  Steady pace through this awesome uphill then a sharp right onto John Britain the Main clearing little ruts and rocjs as we went.  Out onto the road for a wee regroup before dropping down the road to Cavendish Saddle for our ride up the new Mt Pleasant track.  Good grunt but as it is single track it works quite well.  Tight in spots but awesome wee climb.  Then onto the last 20 m of Broadleaf, over the fence and up to  the start of the downhill we worked on a little over a week ago.  They have changed part of the track already.  This needs to be taken at pace to make it flow but it will bed in quite nicely.  New stile over the fence then flowed down to the top of Greenwood.  We took the section out towards mt Pleasant.  Always more sketchy in this direction but fun.  Regrouped at the road and then reversed the track.  Rode in Greenwood then a most popped in to the gun emplacements before heading up to the towers atop Mt Pleasant.  Most of the track is sweet climbing, a few technical bits, (cleaned these) then at the very top a short carry.  Much better than I  thought it would be.  Over the fence then through the gate before dropping back down to Cavendish Saddle.  Sweet run down here sticking close to mellonfarmer all the way.  A few drops of rain coming in for added excitement.  From here we went back up to John Britain the swooped down Lower JB to be back at the cars by 8.15.  Awesome ride.

Sunday 2nd December

Everyone pulled out the ride so it was just Dozer & Bugs. Meet at Ruberjaws around 9.11am and headed towards Rapaiki. Hot grind up here chating and admiring a few of the many females on the hill. Headed around Mt Vernon infront of two female riders when Dozer put a show on for them and came a cropper. Only thing damaged was his pride. Headed down into the Traverse cutting straight into the track ahead of a group chatting at the start. Fast run over the Traverse clearing all the rocky bit's. Stopped at the normal spot just past the pond. Headed around the rest of the track stopping at the top of Vic Park. Commented on how hot it was getting so cruzed on though the two tracks though the trees finishing at Sign of Kiwi. Up the road to top of the body bag then straight down with a sharp right turn up into the pines. Into the track that Sandles showed us on Tuesday evening. Fast run though here with Bugs clearing the rocks that he planted his face into on Tuesday night. Joined into the old track then turned off into the new steep, rooty down hill run. Great run down here with us both clearing it all. Up 4wd track to finish at the bottom of Worsley 4wd track. Down the road though the over grown paddock to finish at the bottom of the hill. Called around at New Boys place only to find he was shopping or something. Called in for coffee at Zerros then home by 12.30. Great, Hot ride, about 35km

Tuesday 28th November

After most people pulled out of the ride we decided at the last minute to change the venue. Meet Sandles at top of tarsel up Worsley. Not long after that Dozer arrived so the 3 of us headed up Worsley's trying to ride all the lines we don't normal use. We all cleared most of it except for the usual spot half way up. Turned left just before the body bag so Sandles could show us the new track she found. Sandles lead the way warning us of a couple of tricky spots along the way.Was going great till one rocky bit when Bugs went over the handle bars using his face and chest to break his full. After dusting myself off and checking the damage I only had a grazed chin, grazed right nipple and brusied left knee. Headed down in the same order enjoying the rest of the track till we crossed the old 4wd track. Hit another new track with Sandles leading the way. Heaps of steep, rooty and rocky sections with most of us clearing more than we thought we would. Finished at the lower 4wd track and headed back up to main 4wd track. Quick turn left and back up the single track to the old steep track to the left. Headed down here to the 4WD track felling a bit disappointed that it wasn't as long as the new track we had just ridden. Back up 4wd then turn right and headed down the old trails to bottom of Worsley track. There was some people making a network of tracks in the pines which should be interesting in the future. Great discovey ride in a nice small group.

Sunday 25th November

Up early and outside to hook up with Sandals and Silverfox by 8.30 (so we could give some time to track building).  We headed around the road then along the Woolston cut picking up Dozer and Bugs before riding along behind ferrymead.  We then started the climb up St Andrews hill.  Stayed as a group at a good steady pace.  One quick stop to stretch the legs then continued up.  Gotrto lower JB and ambled up here in the sun.  We actually did a sharp turn and rode the original John Brittan Track in reverse.  Now it is little used but it was fun and a bit tricky in spots.  We then chatted to a couple of riders on the road and headed down to cavendish Saddle to find the new Mt Pleasant Track.  We did this thanks to Bugs and we followed him.  Not to bad to start then a little steep pinch before easy off to a steady incline.  Good riding though the track needs a bit more biking to really make it work.  It brings you out just before the last gate to the trig station.  So the Goat working then we stopped to work at the top.  I also checked out a noise on my bike.  Freewheel problems but it lasted the ride.  We made some new lines on the hill then rode them and the new lines others were making.  All very good and will make this track so good.  We then followed some guys to the top of Greenwood.  A small regroup then I led off with Bugs on my tails.  I pushed hard all the way, sketchy in spots and then we were down.  Bugs and I were feeling good then we waited for the others to arrive.  Silverfox first with blood on his knee and a saw hand from a fall, then Dozer with a graze too form a fall then Sandals.  After debate Silverfox went down Evans and the rest of us decided to go down Captain Thomas.  Never will I do this again!!!!  It is overgrown and as you go you can see rocks hanging above you, across the track and it makes you a bit nervous.  It was good to ride the track and it just came back where all the little techy bits are.  We came down Sumnervale which was a bit of walk and then some riding.  Dot com for lunch then headed home.  A fantastic ride.

Tuesday 20th November

We did the same ride as we did a few weeks ago with a slightly bigger crew.  Silverfox, The Cook and I met up with Dozer, Texas, Bugs and Sandals at Upper major Hornbrook.  We rode up Lower JB which was in perfect condition considering the rain.  Steady run then up Broadleaf Lane where Dozer was amped and leading.  We then tried to find an alternative way of joining onto the New Mt Pleasant track by going off piste.  Did not work though.  We then did a run down here regrouping at the top of greenwood.  Bugs led off with me next then Silverfox Dozer etc.  Did not stop at all.  Flowed really nice all the way.  I again cleaned both rocks at the bottom.  Now I have a technique I wonder way I ever had problems.  We then hauled up the road turning onto the access track at the pines.  Rode up and did the top side of greenwood towards Mt Pleasant.  Great run then regrouped and did lower JB to finish.  Once again a great Tuesday pump.

Sunday 11th of November

Lest we forget that today was the day the 1st world war finished.

Tinkerbell, Texas, Dozer and Phatboy met at mine and we headed off up the Crapaki.  Very warm until the end of the flat section and from there we had a breeze.  After the first gate Phatboy took off and the rest of us followed basically.  We all passed other riders on the way up which indicates we were not the  slowest.  Yippee.  Everyone made it in under 30 minutes or 40 minutes from mine.  We then went up and over Vernon and we were amazed how many others actually took the road.  Cleaned this quite nicely before flowing around the traverse track.  Just after the half way point we bumped into Sandals and Helmut. They joined us. We then continued around regrouping at Vic then dropping down Thompsons, negotiating our way past a group of boy scouts on a hike.  At Sign of the Kiwi some stopped for a quick snack and I decided to toodle up to Marleys expecting them to easily catch me.  Sandals and Texas joined me.  Then we lost Texas so we continued.  As we climbed up Marleys acess I saw them beginning the Worsley rd.  Waited a bit then decided to continue on down and start the grind back up.  I enjoyed Marleys getting good air on all the bumps and jumps.  I was back at the top of and had put my warm top on before the others showed up.  In the end there was some chain breakage and a couple of regroups.  We then split into two groups.  Phatboy, Texas and I went one way and the others went the B-Line.  Our group took the deepest, gnarliest rut we could find and followed it down.  Good technical training and tough on the upper body.  We regrouped at the bottom all smiles and then popped into Tinks place for drinks.  Then it was separation time as we went home by differing routes.  I did discover that my tyres will need replacing before any riding is done on them

Tuesday 6th November

I would have to say that by time I got off the bike last night it would be the end of one of the most enjoyable Tuesday night rides of the year.  For me personally everything went right and I felt good.

Silverfox and I headed around, picked up The Cook and drove up the hill to Upper Major Hornbrook where  we parked.  We were met by Dozer.  Due to illness or things unknown to us, no-one else arrived.  We then set off at a steady pace up the new J Brittan Track. Nice riding if not cool in the wind.  Earflaps would of been good.  About 150m from the top.  Cook punctured.  From here we went up Broadleaf lane and then u[p the track  to the top of mt Pleasant.  Over the gates, then down to the fence, clambered through the grass and onto the track.  Flowed down here at a steady pace, hardly missing the track amongst the tussocks.  Bumped into  a group where this meets Greenwood who were riding up the way we had come down....fooolsss.  We then tackled Greenwood at pace.  I had seen a rider going onto it earlier and as we hit the track I started seeing glimpses of him.  I thought I could catch him so I chased.  I knew Silverfox and Dozer were on my tail so the chase began.  Closing the gap steadily, finally catching him at gloomy gulch.  He pulled over to let me past and I said " Thanks but we are regrouping here" and then I turnt around to talk to Silverfox and then said "Feck where are they". Waited then The Cook came and said Silverfox punctured.  We waited until we saw them then set off down the hill.  Flying high.  Nearing the double rock section I though I am gonna get this, slipped down a few gears and glided in around the bend, bleeding off some speed and cranked it as I started up the rock.  perfect idea.  Cleaned it while gaining speed then blasted the next one and down to the road.  Regrouped here.  We then spun at a steady pace up the road. I used a gear ratio I had never used and it worked perfectly for me.  We spun up and I thought Feck we are here already. At the mt Pleasant intersection we hit the NEW JB line down.  Quick flow down here and back to the vans feeling great.  The Cook rode down from here while the rest of us drove home.

I loved the ride or have I said that!!!

sunday 4th November

With the CCC website saying tracks were at  avoid we decided  a town ride was the order of the day.  Texas, Dozer, Phatboy and I set  off towards town.  Headed up towards Waltham Rd, over the Bridge then through the Poly tech.  From here we zigged and zagged around the red zone amazed at the sites and open spaces that have developed since last time..  We then headed up Worcester boulevard. along the ave and into the entrance to North Hagley.  We stuck to the left along the front of the gardens, bumping into Abba who was taking the baby for a ride.  We headed by byways around the park and then we headed over to do a circuit of South hagley.  After this we then followed the red zone down Gloucester stopping in the square before coffee at the little weird ass place on Armagh and Barbados's.  After this we went homeward.

Tuesday 30th October

Picked up the Cook and headed up to the Kiwi.  Crowded carpoark so parked on the  edge.  Met up with Silverfox, Bugs, Phatboy and Texas.  Up the road to the top of Marleys and then I led off on the first  run.  Good pump and certainly got my  heart pumping.  Back up we went for a second run, Phatboy led, then me, took a couple of new lines.  At regroup we found Texas had punctured so the rest of us went up for another run.  Things to do so this was a full run back to the cars.  Phatboy, Bugs, Me in that order with Silverfox , The Cook.  At half way texas jumped in behind me.  I was chasing Buggs hard.  New work going on in the bottom section caught me by surprise but it looks promising.  Heart was bursting at the bottom.  Should of gone back for Just 1 more run.

Sunday 28th October

Set off from mine with Tinkerbell, Silverfox and Sandals heading around the river towards Ferrymead.  Bugs was waiting at the end of his street which is where Dozer caught us up also.  From here we followed the towpath to the Ferrymead Bridge where we waited for Phatboy and Mellonfarmer.   From here we headed around McCormacks Bay and up the track to Mt Pleasant Rd.  Steep in a few places and then the switchbacks are a killer for some.  Got most of it but failed on 3-4 spots.  From here we meandered up the road turning onto Upper Major Hornbrook before climbing up the sweet single track we now use on the hill. From here Mellonfarmer led us up Broadleaf Lane, then up to the aerials and Trigg on top of the hill.  From here we saw only clouds below us one side and Lyttleton on the other.  We then followed a track which will be brilliant sometime soon down to the top of Greenwood.  Blasted down the hill at great pace, then up the end of Godley.  Sandals continued to on to help a few people working on Anaconda while the rest of us headed down the singletrack to Taylors Rd.  Up and over to Dotcom for food and tea (coffee for some).  From here a steady blast back to ferrymead Bridge.  Richard and I both complaining that we did not have enough gears.  PH and MF then split along linwood while the rest of us flew around the towpath dropping Bugs at his place.  Home by 1.  Good tough ride.

21st October

Dozer, Tinkerbell, Silverfox and I met at mine and then we trundled up Crapaki Track.  Very warm morning and a realistic grinding pace all the way.  At the top we had a little breather before taking on the next grind up.  I followed Silverfox thru here and it was sweet.  No dabs and surprised him how close I was at the end.  Up and over the next section before hitting the Traverse at pace.  Quick blast with a 30 second stop before going into the Pines at the top of Vic and down towards the Rock garden.  Thru the Rock garden and then down thru the gums at pace.  Finally cleaned that steep gnarly corner.  Down Shazzas and into dark old Brents.  new lines at pace before heading down Bridges Flo etc.  Nice run all the way.  We all realised how tough the local tracks are really as they are not all groomed, or smooth like many done on the trip.  A lot more rocks and roots.  We were at the bottom and out by 10.45.  nice blast then a stop for coffees, juices and a wee nibble.  Followed that up with a ride with my girl Grace around the river in the afternoon.

Thursday 18th October.

Trip review.  On a scale of 1-10 the trip was about a 2 for me.  General feedback was the best was the Gondala and Zoots.  I certainly would not rush back here. Now its about what will we do next year.  Will there be a next year??

Wednesday 17th October.

Up and got packed.  Drove to Wanaka to do Sticky Forest.  Started well down and up twice.  The Cook fell and hurt himself so I rode back to the cars with him.  We waited then Bugs and Silverfox came out and we waited for the rest.  Finally into town for lunch.  Then we started to separate for the drive home. Got home about 7 after quite a cruisy drive.

Tuesday 16th October.

I had a crook guts and was feeling low so I did not ride.  The others went and rode Skippers.  Most thought it was ok but not worth the effort of an hours grunt out.  They also did another run of zoots.  Came back for lunch where most were happy not to ride.  A few showers of rain and if Phatboy had not pushed no one would of ridden.  In the end Phatboy, twopot, nelsie and mellonfarmer went out for a short ride.  Amazing veiws on the track by all accounts.  Dinner at Thai Siam.

Monday 15th October.

After a night of no sleep due to nerves I faced my demons and got on the Gondala along with the rest.  Right up til climbing on I was gonna give it a miss.  Ending up going up 7 times and only shitting my pants 7 times.  The tracks were awesome.  Some of us still rode as a group while others headed off to do their own thing.  Some awesome runs down tracks like Hammys, Vertigo and Singletrack sandwich.  Some fast and some hitting jumps and berms.  Even rode a boardwalk at speed.  After lunch we followed Mellonfarmer down and up a track.. Wrong track. Luckily we did not follow blindly and we set off to find the correct track.  This was a grunt with a lotta pushing uphill.  After regrouping we then followed like sheep.  A few big windfalls and once again a group assisting each other through these while the quick bods went their merry way. finally we found a track that was 100% rideable.  Quick descent to look at a jumps area and after this a few bods did the sheep thing while the rest of us went home to shower and get food organised.  great meal, Thanks Bugs for the Venison food donated.  Some drinks before going to watch some footage.  For me this was spoiled by stupid comments.  Bed.

Sunday 14th October

No rain so we loaded up and drove out to the carpark just after the Moke Lake turn off.  A track took us around to the 7 mile bike area.  Track in was ok but a bit mucky in spots.  Some little grunts along the way.  & mile was made up of little downhjills with lotsa little uphills.  Would be quite awesome with a little more drying but very much enjoyed by all.  Took it easy on a couple of runs, pushed some uphills but made sure to ride them all at least once.  This was done by quite a few. You do have the hardcore who rode it all, ups, downs, and all arounds.  If you listen to the stories I am sure some were quicker than their own wind.   Of course I can only speak for rmyself but the general consensus was it was ok.  The ride back along the track was great.  Home for lunch break before heading out to look at Skippers. Snow on the ground so on mellonfarmers advice we decided not to do this (tho Hellmutt and Nelsie decided to do it themselves) and (the rest) had a blast down Zoots track. This track will be held in fond memory by all. Great track so we organised some shuttle runs before heading back to town.  Spag Bol for dinner.

Saturday 13th October.

Wet wet wet and bloody cold.  As a group we decided not to ride.  Mucked around and strolled around Queenstown. Had lunch at a burger bar.  Went home and drunk and took time to laugh.  Out to dinner.  mexican tonite.

Friday 12th October

Up and out to the car early. Drove over and picked up Helmut and sandals.  Had lotsa food to load plus baggage for the trip.  We then drove off and got to the meeting point outside of Cookietime at exactly 7.30am.  Alistair and Nico were already waiting.  Then Bugs, Dozer and The Cook arrived.  They were followed By Tinkerbell, Silverfox and The Goat.  Finally Phatboy arrived with Nelsie, Twopot and Mellonfarmer.  The biggest posse for a trip ever. We drove off in convoy stopping briefly in Geraldine before turning off to Raincliff for a ride.  This track is still knew and was somewhat wet and boggy in places.  May get better one day but not today.  We then headed on.  Most thought we would stop but as the lead car had lotsa food we did not stop until Wanaka Beerworks.  Had a quick tasting, got some beers and over the Crown Range to Queenstown where we had some very good accommadation.  It was wet so no riding.

Wednesday 10th October

I had a chance to get out so I headed up gruntsbury at a steady pace.  my kinda steady!!  Kept it 1 gear higher than normal for extra workout.  Noone passed me all the way.  Kinda nice weather with a coolish wind behind me.  Upto the top then I chased a guy who got a big start on me finally catching him just before going into the trees at the top of Vic.  Down through Rock garden then shot down to Sandals hoping to catch helmut but neither were there.  then a pump back to my place.  bring on Fridays new track

Saturday 6th October

A knock on the door and here was some English guy called nick that mellonfarmer organised to ride with us. mellonfarmer however did not ride.  The rest of the posse arrived including, Dozer, Bugs, Silverfox, Tinkerbell, Phatboy, The cook and Sandals.  We headed off around Hansens Park, checking out the new unfinished path then started the grind to the top of Huntsbury..  Regrouped in the usual spots.  Phatboy had to wait longest as his bike rode fastest.  Finally at the top gate we discovered Texas had headed out alone so we incorporated him into the posse.  At the top we all sorted ourselves into order and headed around the traverse track at good pace, 1 quick regroup and then onwards.  They have fixed the dipper after all the rain.  At the top of Vic park we regrouped only to discover the Cook had gone down the hill.  Phatboy went down and bought him back up as he was waiting at the landing strip.  from here it was down Thompsons and then climbed to the top of marleys.  We had a flyer down the NUN with another gathering by the Kiwi.  Silverfox was proudly wearing battlescars and leaking fluid from a knee dab.  Down the old Dyers track and juddering pace and after gathering we headed up to the skidder site.  Here we went down Shazzas.  nicks inexperience with downhills showed so he went down the 4wd tracks to the bottom of Brents.  Phatboy and i racing down Brents with him getting a slight edge into a corner.  From here bridges and flow were dispensed with.  At the bottom of hidden valley track nick headed out while the rest of us clambered up and the flew down Old school.  great ride with a few tired bods at the end.  bring on the trip.

Tuesday 2nd october.

The big trip is nearly here so last night we needed a meeting.  A posse arrived at mine (Mellonfarmer, Bugs, Dozer, The Cook, Phatboy) and we all set off.  Some on Town bikes some on their steeds for mountains.  By round about routes we did ride until we picked up 3 more posse members. ( Tinkerbell, Silverfoxy and Sandals)  Pumping hard we headed towards Shagley Park.  Along the edge towards the Hospital we found a Lone Goat looking shaggy so we gathered him up and headed around the edge of North Hagley until we got back to the museum.  Really good pump.  Then by highways and byways we made our way to Pomeroys to imbibe good beer while discusing the transport needs for the trip.  After much confusion a plan was laid and more drinks and laughter followed.  By then end of the night we were no longer a posse but a band of merry men.  I was home before midnight still.

Saturday 29th September

Got up, got ready and put sound in my ears before pumping hard into the wind all the way to Phatboys.  met him and Dozer here and the 3 of us rode the river to the planting.  Solid head wind all the way.  We headed around Avonside Drive staying on the South bank all the way.  Through Red Zone after red Zone, just devastation and now with houses coming down makes it quite sobering.  Continued around past Wainoni Rd back along the river staying on the shingle all the way.  Phatboy led until we crossed Wainoni Rd again.  Then me leading as hard as i could. Along behind Tinkerbells old place, then crossing at bridge st for a ride through the old pines that are no longer there.  Continuing until Southshore then Rockinghorse rd until the Southshore Reserve. We then assisted Trees for Canterbury plant 2000 trees.  Tinkerbell and Jenna and Mellonfarmer put in appearances.Phatboy had a meeting and peeled off early.  After the planting and some food Dozer and I rode the track around the reserve before returning along the same route until we ended out on Wainoni Rd again.  He headed up cuffs rd to his place and I continued down Wainoni, Kerrs, Aldwins, Ensors and the Opawa Rd and home.  Total distance for me was 48km.  It was tough with so much wind.  I felt a little buggered for the afternoon.

Tuesday 25th September

Grabbed the cook and headed up to meet the posse at the Sign of Takehe.  There was Phatboy, Tinkerbell, Silverfox, Dozer, Bugs, Nelsie, and Mellonfarmer.  Up into Vic Park wiith 3 distinct groups forming, fast, medium and slow.  Me being the slowest.  What is it with me and Tuesday night rides.  Up we went to the bit where we turnt off and headed down the off road track to the old Dyers track.  Some mentioned how much they love this track....yeah right.  Up we went with the same groups forming, me at the back.  grinding up here.  3/4s of the way up I finally found some energy and started to gain on the back 2.  Onto the road by kiwi and then chatted with Bugs and The Cook until we caught up to the posse.  Then the last little climb to the top of Marleys and straight into the downhill. Not a bad run, dust in the air which slowed me down but once I had clear air it was much more fun.  We left mellonfarmer and nelsie to head back to their car on the bottom of Worsley and the rest of us headed upto the top of Vic.  great run down through the tracks to the skidder site.  No 2 people taking the same line.  We then did the track to the road and then down to the walking track that we should not do.  I led down here gaining some nice speed, giving some whoops and hollas when I went over a drop without realising it.  back to the cars and home by 8.30.  more up than down but good ride all in all.

Sunday 23rd September

An awesome day for a ride.  A posse of Dozer, Silverfox, Tinkerbell, The Cook, Sandals and Phatboy showed up to ride with me.  Phatboy on his New Snow Monster that weighs nothing and is made from a substance not of metal.  We oohed and aahed and were truly impressed. We set off down Radley and then on to the track behind Woolston by the cut, along the towpath and then stopped on the Ferrymead Bridge to get rid of excess items.  Sandals duly lifted up her top to show us what  was underneath.  What a wonderful site....the new teeshirt for the trip. Looking good. We then started the grind up St Andrews Hill. Phatboy, Tinkerbell and Dozer setting the pace, followed by Myself and Silverfox, then The Cook and Sandals.  I started to close in on Dozer but the rest stop got to him before me.  As ever it is a grind but we all climbed up better than a few weeks back.  Duly impressed. We had a small regroup before  headed up behind Longridge on the walking paths before stopping for a regroup by the  New John Britan Singletrack. (The photo shows the view befire starting the singletrack and the Snow Monster)  Thisnew track  is wonderful climbing in the dry and I led off followed by Sandals.  In short order we were at Summit Rd and headed straight into Greenwood.  Blasting the first section and stopped by the ruins for a quick regroup and a chance to water the plants.  Noticed a rider heading down towards us and started to move the bikes when we realised it was A Lone hairy Goat.  Good chance to catch up and he got to ooh and aah over the numerous new bikes that were in the group since he last rode with us.  We oohed and aahed his stead too!  Then it was down we went.  Great fast blast stopping just past gloomy gulch for a regroup.  The next steep bit got my attention when I got to close to the edge and was riding with my rear wheel sliding off the rocks, recovered in time to have to avoid slamming a rock, clenched my cheeks and carried on riding. Kept riding all the way to Evans.  Phatboy was flying.  We then headed up Godley where Tinkerbell cleared the first bit, and headed around to the next  cattlestop.  I was pushing but Phatboy  was gone.  We regrouped at  the cattlestop said goodbye to the Goat who was going on and we then chased sheep down to the road.  Down off piste and then straight into the new singletrack to Taylors Rd.  Took some new lines down here only dabbing twice and finding ways around the hairpins.  Then up the road to the top and flew down to Sumner.  Had to slow for a truck coming up then gave a kid in a car ahead some thrills as I got within a gnats whisker of his fathers car.  Coffee, Greentea, was then imbibed at Dot Com before the haul home.  Sandals stayed to do some shopping a we headed off.  Phatboy left us on the causeway.  Regrouped on the bridge, saying goodbye to 2, then along the rive, saying goodbye to 1 and then the last 3 headed home to mine..  Great Bloody ride, felt good too.

Tuesday 18th September

Under lights, The Cook, Phatboy, Nelsie, MF, Buggs and Dozer treadled up Godley Drive, through locked gates and gravel to the Summit Rd.  MF and Nels took the dirt, while the other 4 rode to meet them at Evans.  All turned round and in sensible order jettisoned themselves dallyingly along the trail.  Tires were too hard on Phatboy's Chameleon so he extracted some air at Livingston.  The crew then blitzed over their rock, afterwhich Motherfarmer had a very close call on the cattlestop.  Waiting, and waiting, and waiting, they were for The Cook's light to show over the ridge.  Finally it appeared and when he got to the crew he explained he'd had a wee off, his light had blown off his helmet, and he had to find the attachment for the helment in the dark, which is what took so long.  Off round below the road, most of the way, then back, then up the road, and down the singletrack they jaunted.  A final grovel, and lo they were back at their cars!  Easterlies are cold and strong, sometimes.

Saturday 15th September.

Time to plant at Travis Wetland so a long flat ride organised with an early start of 8.20am.  Mellonfarmer, Dozer, Bugs, Silverfox and Tinkerbell arrived and we headed off towards the planting.  Started down Radley, through the cemetry then into the next cemetry before riding Maces Rd behind the ponds, right towards Bridge St.  Crossing the munted bridge before the left onto the stop bank.  The first section is quite knewly updated so shingle was thick but as you get closer to new Brighton it becomes more damaged.  makes for an interesting ride requiring more energy as you work over the bumps etc of the stop bank.  We followed this all the way to the front entrance of Horseshoe Lake.   We attempted to ride through here but it was a big fail.  By time we got halfway trees were down everywhere and the track became submerged so we backtracked and shot out the Burwood side of this.  Big munted red zone.  Wow.  Went around the back of the reserve admiring previous plantings.  After getting all the way around shot down Burwood Rd before circumnavigating Travis Wetland.  Once again admiring plantings that we were involved in.  Planting 2000 plants with assistance of  55 other people.  Had a qucik bbq sausage and pattie before heading off.  This time we went through the middle of Travis and then headed back to New Brighton Rd.  We followed the river all the way to North Avon Rd (lots of sadness through the red Zone) then around for  a Piss  stop at Mellonfarmers.  From here we rode past Avonside grils and started to separate as we neared home.  Silverfox and I finally went separate ways at Opawa Rd.  This is a total of 40km for me and more for  a few of the others.  Felt rather good too!!

Sunday 9th September.

I do not know exactly where they rode but a small posse showed up at mine.  I chatted with them before they headed off.  Tinkerbell, Silverfox, Phatboy and I think Dozer.  They headed up the hill, around the Travers and down somewhere for a bit of a lark.

steve away so far only 1 update

With me away in Japan the guys were slack and did not even send me a rundown of what they did.  I believe 3 rides were had so hopefully I will update later

here is one of them..

Sunday 2nd September
Fathers day and most busy eating breakfast in bed, unwrapping their new ....?@#!.... socks.
Meanwhile outside was a glorious sunny still spring morning, being enjoyed by Dozer, Sandels and Helmut as they chatted their way up Rapaki.
Up Vernon, savoring the last remnants of volcanic rock track pre entering the footpath zone. Around the traverse to Vic. Hard right before Vic park fence line, eyed up the 30 footer on our way passed,  over the stile, right again along fence line and then back out into paddock via newish cattlestop track. Not sure of the name of this new track...  a nice flowing peice groomed up over autumn and winter passed.  Back into trees and another peice of flowing track linking up to top of Cool Runnings.   New entrance to Cool Runnings to be explored next time (old one is munted).  Down Cool Runnings eyeing up some new big stuff, jumps, gaps and drops....  but all with B lines, great roller coaster stuff and lots of fun on dry hard pack.  Out bottom, bridges and old Skool... coffee at garden center.  A beautiful day, stunning weather and lots of smiles.

Saturday 25th August

Headed outside early and watched as a rather good posse gathered.  It included Texas, Dozer, Silverfox, Sandals, Tinkerbell, Phatboy, The Cook and Mellonfarmer.  We headed off around the Woolston Cut the down the towpath at a steady clip.  Mellonfarmer and Phatboy got a little ahead and when the rest of us decided to avoid the hassles of last week with lack of egress from the track we took the cut out into Settlers cres only to discover the track was not cut off by diggers but what the heck.  We then took off sweat tops jackets etc before starting the steady  grind up St Andrews.  We took a new route avoiding the road where we could before tackling some single track at the top.  I cleaned this with 1 dab as I tried to chase Mellonfarmer and keep ahead of the pack.  Phatboy caught me near the top but I thought I did bloody well for a change.  It  was warm by now and so enjoyable.  Great views on such a clear day.  The it was through the gate and into greenwood.  Damp in spots and muddy in others but just perfect run down here.  1 regroup before attacking the  track again.  At the road we did a regroup and I a tyre change/patch for the Phatboy amongst his phone calls and a toilet stop.  Decided to miss the Godley Track due to the delay but in the end some ended up doing it while the rest of us flew up the road.  Still had to wait so we may as well of ridden the track.  We  did hear it was really wet and should of been at avoid.  Headed down the Scarborough single track and then all agreed with  mellonfarmer to try a new track.  Unfortunately it did not work out so we clambered back up.  It did give us a couple of giggles though as the slip of caused some mayhem.  We ended up going down the other side and out onto the Taylor's Rd for a short climb up.  Fast Blast down to Sumner only to be held up by  trucks at the final hairpin.  Stopped for coffee at Dot com.  Janine and Grace joined us.
Mellonfarmer took off early before the rest of us did the  grind home in reverse of the trip there. An awesome ride overall.

Tuesday 21st August

Tracks closed and fitness to gain so we met at mine.  There was Bugs, Tinkerbell, Silverfox, Cookie and Sandals.  We headed down Opawa Rd turning right into Port Hills Rd for the little climb over the ridge.  I stayed in one gear, stood and grunted up.  Down the other side and then around to Gruntsbury where we climbed to the top of the road before taking the side roads down the otherside and out onto the flat before heading left up Dyers Rd.  grunted up to the Sign of the Kiwi before coming down Hackthorne and the right into MacMillan and then onto Sandels  place.  We stopped and chatted over a design for a tee shirt before heading home across the flats.  The tee shirt is supply your own with a $10 note and it will be screen printed with a groovy little logo.

Saturday 18th August

We were meant to ride to a planting but the site was under water and the day has been postponed to the 25th so with all the tracks closed on the hills we decided on a road ride with a twist.  Mellonfarmer, Phatboy, Tinkerbell, The Cook, Silverfox and Sandals (on her cruiser bike with 8 gears)all met at mine.  One showing off his new 29er wheel one showing off 2 new wheels and a frame. Tinkerbell has finally got a new bike and it was quite sexy for a bike. We headed around the river getting along the single track of the towpath before heading up St Andrews hill. Nice grunt up here with Mellonfarmer standing to keep the single speed moving and Sandals digging it in due to the lack of gears.  Stopped at the church so people could strip down.  Continued on up steadily then through Longridge settlement (by now we had stopped for a regroup) scoping out another route for later.  We then headed up the last bit of Mt Pleasant rd into the cloud before coming stopping to layer up.  Headed around the road to Evans Pass after getting through the gates saying slips ahead.  Nice cool run down here noting all slips cleaned up.  About halfway down we stopped to look at the corner on Evans pass rd where they have been blowing rock up.  Then we headed down.  I thought all of us were on the road but at Evans Pass itself discovered only mellonfarmer and Sandals shortly joined by the Cook.  The word was something wrong with Phatboys bike.  A phonecall later discoverd he was now walking back to Mt Pleasant road with a broken frame.  (he is kinda happy as he has been talking about an upgrade for a while)  The others caught up before climbing up the road to the track down to Scarbourgh Hill.  This was rutted by water.  Then down to Dot Com for coffee and then the ride back.  Good solid blast across the causeway then the river home  Enjoyed it all very much

Saturday 11th August

So many people away but the riding must go on.  I headed off up the hill picking up The Cook, Silverfox and Sandals along the way.  We parked at Sign of the Kiwi and headed up to the top of Worsley.  Standing at the top you could see the puddle at the gate below us was more like a lake.  We headed down the Bag, not to slippery but needing some caution and from here we headed up the slope to the B line.  Needed to stay on the grass to avoid wheel spin.  The B line was the wettest I have ever ridden it.  Slop everywhere on the top end with some really slippery corners.  Caution was the word of the day.  Continued on down with no major incidents but a few points where you sucked in your breath and thought "Holy Crap Batman".  When we came out on Worsley it was time to head up the hill.  Rivers flowing in some crevasses but not as slippery as I thought.  If you dabbed it was not easy to get started but we continued up.  Silverfox going well.  In the top half I changed my line from the usual and started riding the ditch more where the traction was better due to the water flowing.  This is where I gained on him as it was so much easier.  No one cleaned it all and the body bag was ok until you spun.  We all walked the last bit.  We headed up to the top of marleys thinking the rock berms would be a challenge.  They were fine.  It was all the muddy bits just before or just after them that was the biggest challenge.  it was  the wettest I can remember the track being and I was mud splattered at the Kiwi when we finished.  Felt really good and could of done another loop but things happening for everyone.  The others all rode the road down while I had to drive.

Sunday 5th August

Got picked up by Dozer and then went and collected Bugs before heading out to get the early sailing to Diamond Harbour.  We were surprised to have Phatboy and Mellonfarmer arrive.  Got off the boat and did the grind up from the wharf then down up and down more down to orton bradley with time to spare.  While admiring previous years plantings we discovered some plants with pre dug holes so got those in the ground before heading back to the starting point.  A good turnout of people and the planting went rather quickly.  Tinkerbell showed up to help.  He rode his 2L Mecedes diesel bike but had a good MTB top so he would fit in.  My girls showed up for morning tea.  Then we headed home.  Up up and a little down then more up to Diamond Harbour at a rather good pace, then the cliftop track which is fun in parts and great in others except where you can not ride.  Sat and waited for the ferry back.  A good wee ride.

Sunday 29th July

Final ride for July.  Only a small posse gathered at mine.  Four of us.  Tinkerbell, Silverfox, Dozer and I.  We headed up Rapaki for a change.  It confirmed to me that it is a boring track, so wide and smooth and not much to see except track going up in front of you.  Silverfox was trying to stop his bladder leaking (the one on his back) got into thick shingle and fell off going up.  We continued at a steady pace slowing in the top section to allow Dozer to talk on his phone and catch up.  From the top we were going to go by road as we remembered the mud of a week ago.  We agreed with Tinks and went up the single track to find no mud or puddles.  Cleaned it all even with a guy stopping directly in front on some rocks, I balanced until he moved and went on through with out dabbing.  From the road we blasted around with no stops, down through the pines with a quick stop at the feild.  We then headed down Rock garden, taking the alternative line before heading down Shazzas and into Brents.  We all took different lines with Tinks doing a flying little jump across my path.  Great fun down here.  Then down flow  and bridges and then after a regroup we headed up hidden valley to old skool.  Problem was my seat got stuck down so I ended up walking, slipping my way up the steeper bits.  From the high point it was plain sailing around the zigs and zags, over the rocks, through some slippery shit all the way down.  Cleaned that nasty bit at the bottom with only one wee dab.  Great ride and then off for coffee.

Sunday 22nd July

A foggy cool morning but Tinkerbell and mellonfarmer arrived and we set off in the vano to Dot Com.  Surprised by seeing Dozer and Bugs.  Our smallish Posse set off up Richmond Hill grunty Rd.  mellonfarmer on his no suspension anywhere singlespeed.  He had to walk quitre a bit up here.  The rest of us treated our bikes like a singlespeed and engaged granny to the  top.  Pleasantly surprised by the speed we maintained all the way.  Got back into the cloud/fog at the top of the farm track and so coated up at the road.  Fog got thicker as we rode to the start of greenwood.  Not a bad blast for the first section although the rocks were a tad slippery and my glasses fogged up.  Set off down the hill stopping for me to put my glasses in the bag.  Sketchy in some sections and I scared myself silly once or twice.  Lower we got the faster we got.  From Evans we climbed up the first leg of Godley before dropping down the farm track to the road.  We followed Mellonfarmer down a track before climbiung a stile into the walking track down to the Taylors rd.  Good singletrack down and seemed really long.  from the road a quick grind up then down to Dot Com.  great  ride.

Tuesday 17th July

Headed up the hill with The Cook where we hooked up with Nellie, Mellonfarmer, Bugs, Dozer and Phatboy.  Headed up the hill from S
The Kiwi to top of Vic before starting the grinding climb around the Traverse.  Gosh I was PATHETIC. The track was in ok condition with just a few puddles.  regrouped before going up and over Vernon to the top of Rapaki.  Did better through here until the muddy rocky section just before you head down the hill.  Dab dab feckin dab.  The earlier bit has been made into a red carpet so smooth.  From  the top of Rapaki we climbed the road to the Traverse and headed back.  The down Thompsons.  I was completely fecked now so pulled the pin and the Cook came with me.  All my heroes rode up and did Marleys before heading home.

Sunday 15th July

Yahoo a ride finally.  I drove out to Dot Com where I was joined shortly by Texas, Bugs, Dozer, Sandals, Tinkerbell, Mellonfarmer, Phatboy and Bernie the old boy Hilbers.  We rode round the shore and up the Scarboruogh Rd with the Old Boy leading all the way to Godley Dr.  This is a steep little bit of road but we all made it to the deer fence gate.  After opening this with my special key we rode on up the shingle rd, opening or climbing gates as we went.  At the road we turned right then left up the farm track and along the fenceline until we connected with the Godley Head track.  Right towards Evans after chatting with another group of riders.  3 continued nearly all the way down while the rest of us turned at the point that saved us climbing too much.  The return was better with me getting my eye in and getting use to the slippery surface.  A fast blast down to Livingstoone Col for a regroup.  As we started up mellonfarmer pulled over with a flat so I led off up here cleaning all except for 1 dab.  I think by now we were all riding much easier and at the top we just rolled on down to breeze Col.  Moost of us riding over PFMTBC Rock.  Out along the low track to Godley Head ducking under the wire hanging low before returning along the same way.  We found a way around the fence closing Anaconda before blasting down.  Only hiccup was some really greasy corners in the zigs and zags.  Then the tail before grinding up from Taylors.  The old man did really well and after stopping for coffee at Dotcom we all headed home.  Great day for a ride with mild weather and sun shining.

Sunday 1st July

Silverfox, Tinkerbell and Dozer joined me for a ride.  We all trundled up Gruntsbury at a steady pacer.  Not the quickest time up the hill.  We were going to come down Worsley and help Tony and Di move a couple of peices of furniture but as we trundled up we were informed it may be more than a couple.  Anyhow when we got to the top we decided that just for a change we would do all of Old Skool.   Its been a while.  Came on down taking all the off piste route and only stumbling once.  Great ride, then down onto the single track with much joy and fun being had.  From here we zigged, zagged, road rid, path rode all the way to Silvefoxies and had coffee before moving furniture.  Quite pleased we got there early as we moved and humped some big items up the stairs and into various rooms.  Dozer and I then did the trek home.  it was bleedin cold still.

Meanwhile, 45 minutes north of here, MellonPharmer and PictonBlenheim treadled their merry ways on the flanks of Mt Grey

tuesday 26th June written by the Bugster

We meet at the top of Dyers Rd. There was Hewie, Lewie, Doowie and Poowie. Poowie had to leave so Hewie, Lewie and Dowie headed up the road to top of Vic park. Sorted a nice order and hit the Traverse. Nice spin accross here with the lungs struggling in the cold air. Heaps groups heading the other way. Got to start of Mt Vernan and saw a single light coming from behind. Phatboy turns up and made us a group of 4 again. Up Mt Vernan track and down over the new hard packed track which is so much like McLeans island just down hill. Fast clip down to top of Rapaki track. Quick chat here then up road to Traverse. Head wind from here getting colder as we crossed the Traverse. Reqrop at top of Vic park then down the single track below the road finishing at cars. QUick dicussion about heading up to Nun for a loop but the cold was getting to some of us. Packed up and drove home. 3 Degress at the car.

Saturday 23rd June

Another planting on a Saturday meant another Saturday ride.  Sandals, Bugs, and Dozer hooked up at mine and we all set off up Gruntsbury.  God it felt like we had not ridden in ages.  Beautiful barmy day about 20 degrees.  Got to the top and headed around the traverse then down through the Rock Garden and gums before stopping at the skidder site for a bite.  Sandals got a call so she departed and the 3 lads dropped down to the planting site.   Went real quick and 70 minutes later we rode back through the planting crowd to the rangers station for food.  After this headed down Shazzas, Brents, Bridges, Flow and then out through the valley.  Good little ride  but God we need to do more.

Sunday 17th June

A very big night on Saturday and it was decided a town tour would be the go with a late start.  Tracks were all closed too!!  I went outside at 10am to find ice everywhere.  Bloody cold.  Bugs arrived and we set off at 10.15 sharp being careful in shady areas where the ice was still thick on the road. Tinkerbell past us in the van and we all met up at Phatboys along with Dozer.  The five of us set off and slowly trundled around the red Zone barrier.  Amazed at the empty sites and imaging what it was gonna look like in a couple of years.  Stopped for coffee in Cashel Mall before heading out.  I took off at Manchester and Zigged and Zagged my way home at a fast pace while the others headed home their own way.  Good to get out.

Sunday 10th June

I did not ride due to cold snotty nose and the fact I got no sleep from this.  Dozer collected Silverfox and headed out to Taylors where they hooked up with Mellonfarmer, Phatboy and Bugs.  From here they clambered up the road to the singletrack turnoff.  A little greasy grunt to the stile where they caught their respective breathes before a steep greasy climb which nobody cleaned (Well not to my knowledge) before cruising up the shingle road top the tarmac.  Instead of going up the farm track we venutred recently and turning right along the single track to Evans they turnt right and did the road to Evans.  Strange people that they are and then rode the single track back.  Greasy rocks prevented anyone cleaning it without dabbing (so I have been told), at Breeze cold they talked for a while.  From here around the single track to the end before returning and blasting down the snake and its tail.  Good ride and I wish I had of made it!!!

Tuesday 5th June

A small ride organised to Pomeroys partly due to weather and partly due to a need for a beer.  The Cook, Dozer and Tinkerbell arrived at mine and we rode to the bridge where Mellonfarmer and Phatboy hooked up.  The had ridden to extend the length of their ride.  In short order due to the ever increasing raindrops we headed by the shortest route arriving just in time for the skies to open.  Dozer and Tinks stayed for 2 beers and rode into the flood.  The rest of us stayed for "just one more" before heading to Phatboys for "Just another 1 more".  After this it was time to brave the rain properly.  It was a very wet ride home but the beers were lovely.

Saturday 2nd June

As in past years the first ride of the June period tends to coincide with a planting on Marleys Hill.  I awoke feeling slightly ill after a hard night supporting the Crusaders thrash the Highlanders.  Outside I hooked up with Silverfox and Texas.  I heard from Sandals who was running late and would meet us at Gruntsbury.  heard from Phatboy who was running even later so I said we would ride real slow and allow him to catch us up on the trail.  Rode round up met sandals and started the basic crawl up the hill.  Chatting and enjoying the day.  At the top gate just before the summit we stopped and chatted and saw in the distance a rider making his way up.  Decided it must be Phatboy by the way he rode and we were right.  We then headed around the traverse at a good kick arese pace regrouped once and continued to the top of Vic.  Down Thompsons and a quick potty stop at The Kiwi before the climb to the top of Marleys by 1pm  where we joined the planting crew.  Worked hard and by 2.30 it was over.  We came screaming down the Nun getting jumps and new lines as we rode.  from here it was upto the top of Vic, Rock garden, Gums, regroup then down Dazzas, Brents etc and out the Valley track.  Great ride for a bunch of riders like us.

29th May 2012

A cold night as it got dark but the plan was to ride and ride we did.  Silverfox and the Cook arrived so we loaded up and headed over to Taylors for the hook up.  Waiting was Texas, Bugs and Dozer.  We then heard Phatboy and Tinkerbell coming down the hill.  On the bikes and we headed up the road to the top before hanging a left onto Godley Rd.  New territory for us all which was novel.  A slightly steeper strectch than I thought it would be but all good.  Then at the road end we discovered a 6 foot high fence and gate.  mmmmmm We climbed it and got the bikes over too.  Rode up the shingle for a bit before discovering we had another gate but this time I used my key on it.  Haha good thinking.  Up the shingle track again over a few small gates until reaching the road.  Beautiful night and looked good everywhere I could see.  We decided to turn right and after riding 100m maybe a bit more we found the gate I was looking for on the left.  Turns out texas and Bugs had used this gate before.  We headed up the farm track as it slowly became single track reaching the Godley head bike track at the rocky entrance to the cattlestop.  All down hill towards Livingstone Col.  Sweet run through slightly overgrown track.  So good. I did not see it but all talked about Dozer riding off the boardwalk somehow.  His words were "I only rode off it a bit". We regrouped before riding up and over to Breeze Col.  Nearly all of us rode "PFMTBC Rock."  Then it was down the Snake at rocket speeds, jumps and joy, tears from the wind and all the good things that go with it.  Slightly damp and greasy in spots to keep all honest then regrouped at the tail just in time to watch The Cook have a small slide before all of us heading down and out to the cars.  5 ofd us then drove to Cashmere to help a Damsel in distress.  Had beer and savouries and moved two couches before going home.  Enjoyed the new route up the hill.

Sunday 27th May

Up and ready early. Beautiful and warm with sun shining. Went outside meeting Silverfox then Bugs and Dozer. Then a chill came in so put the jacket on. Rode down the street where we hooked up with Phatboy. A few drops of rain but the cloud was not where we were riding so we headed on around Hansens park. The cloud was chasing us and catching. Started up Ramahana Rd when the rain caught us and the cloud was now where we were heading. Stood under the tree hoping it would go away but alas no. We then rode home for coffee. Yes the rain stopped but about an hour later. Had things to do so canned the ride.

Meanwhile, Mellonfarmer and BeckyBoo tried to get up Mt Grey but were pushed off by the same rainstorm and ended up riding elsewhere

Tuesday May 22nd

Got home after a day spent sweeping, painting and sniffing fumes at work.   Did not feel like riding but went anyway.  Silverfox showed at mine and we went round collected the Cook and headed upto The Sign of the Kiwi.  Met up with Tinkerbell, Picton, Mellonfarmer and Bugs.  Headed up the road into some light cloud and to the top of Marleys at a gentle pace.  Sorted an order and headed down.  Bugs filming Tinks on the way and I was followed by Silverfox then Cook.  The speed boyz were gone in the distance for a full loop. Took it somewhat easy but enjoyed it meeting at the middle for another uphill loop.  The Cooks shoulder playing up a bit so decided to do a full run and get him home rather than sitting in the cold.  This time same order but new lines and a bit quicker.  Feeling good on the up and great on the down.  Stopped for a regroup with the lads before doing the bottom half.  Nice run down here getting all the little jumps. Chatted with Mellonfarmer and Piction at the bottom before slinging the bikes and heading home.  Would of and could of done a couple of more loops but happy to get out at all.

Sunday 19th Mayy

Another planting day.  Woke up feeling slightly tired and grumpy, nothing to do with the great rugby game the night before.  Anyhow went out to find Silverfox, Tinkerbell and Dozer ready to go. It was bloody cold out. Headed up the road to the end of Heathcote Valley then down Bridal Path Rd, Martindales and then truscotts Rd before riding the track around the back of the esturary.  We then rode the towpath around the back of Ferrymead, watched the ugly towers being demolished before arriving at Charlesworth Reserve for the planting.  Worked hard and then went home.

the lost rides

As I am the only one who keeps this really updated and kissed 3 rides there is not a lot to say really.  I heard they went out and rode but not much more,

Thursday 17th May

Ride of 2 halves last night, thereby covering more ground... Buggs, Dozer and The Cook gathered at Taylors and waited for Phatboy, Mellonpharmacologic and Pictonia to arrive. They did, then they all rode up the Snake's tail. Picton, MF and Phatser peaked so quick while the others awaited The Cook's cooking that txt's were traded and the quicker group groped off into the night along the road and had a wonderful adventure picking their way back over the boulderstrewn trail. Meanwhile, Buggs, Dozer and Cookie explored out along the lower singletrack to the end and back then all the way down Anna Conda. She was reluctant to let the Cook go, and he was wondering where to go when the speedsters jetted past him showing him the way to do it. The six regrouped and finished off the tale with much aplomb. All told, by 8.10pm or so.

Sunday 6th May

The first trees for canterbury planting of the year required a road ride.  Silverfox and I trundled over to Phatboys where we met up with Mellonfarmer, Dozer and Tinkerbell.  The whole posse then headed thru the broken streets to Hagley Park where a bunch of nutters were running around in circles then down the rail cycle path to Tuckers Rd then thrugh Styx Mill to the planting site.  Planted 2000 plants, ate sausages and hash browns before heading back in reverse direction.  People all splitting off at respective points.  Got another ride in to and from the rugby later too.

Sunday 29th April

Small posse for today's ride, an O for Awesome foursome, - Phatboy, Mellonpharmacy, Sandals and Dozer. They met at Dotcom and shot to the top of Richmond Hill, then flew over the start of Greenwood, stopping to dig some dirt on the trails with grubbers, before descending with great aplomb. Next it was Godley, where they clambered and climbed then rattled their dags down and over their rock feature, finally anaphalacticating the anaconda and tattling out of taylors, nicking nicholson and flowing (as best they could) down Flowers.

Sunday 22nd April

Went outside and met up with Mellonfarmer, Silverfox, phatboy, Tinkerbell, Sandals and Dozer.  We then preceded to  do the same ride as last Sunday but with a few changes to the posse and to the lines we took.  Up Gruntsbury at a steady pace, then into Traverse, (no stopping to stay in front of some snails although some got caught) Thompsons and then climbed up to Marleys.  The joke on the track is regarding cameras, passing and punching.   Down Marleys at wahoo pace then up to the top of Vic and down Rockgarden and Gums.  Stopped to chat with Nick the ranger and Phatboy put air in his tyre. This was the fourth  bike put upside down today for 1 reason or another.  headed down Shazzas.  This is where we had some separation.  I was keen to do another line so went off the main trail.  I was followed by  Dozer, Silverfox and Sandals.  Got into a line and baulked.  Scoped it out and decided YES I will ride it sort pushed back up and then headed down.  Nice steep and technical.  Loved.  We regrouped at the bottom and then into Brents and hooked up with the other 3.  Then down Bridges and Flow before heading up Hidden Valley.  From here down Old Skool and then out for coffee.  Great ride.  Felt fantastic afterwards.  I feel a Greenwood Godley expedition coming on.

Tuesday 17th April

Bit cold so the riders were dropping like fly's. We were keen for a decent ride. Dozer turned up at Bugs place around six and we rode round past Rubberjaws to find no one there so we pushed on to Silver foxes. The 3 Musketeers then road round to the Halswall quarry. Headed up the track with Dozer leading us a stray. Looks different in the dark. Good ride up the single track with the 3 musketeers clearing all the track and racing for turns at the lead. Up to the pine trees with the gate where we normally turn around and decided to climb some more. Past the cows and before we knew it we were at the top. Round to the Nun with a quick run down here except for Tony getting his normal puncher. Joined the queue at the top of Vic park and headed around the Traverse. Up onto Mt Vernon with the fox leading. Down Rapaki with Bugs lights attracting all the bugs. SIlver fox headed home from here with Bugs and Dozer riding the last bit of road home. Long but great ride. Home nice n early at 10.15pm.

Sunday 15th April

I went outside and found Helmut and Sandals ready to go. We were joined shortly thereafter by Silverfox, Bugs, Tinkerbell and Dozer. Te Rex met himself at Zeros ( who decided to meet at Zeros) and headed up the hill meeting us at just below the last gate.. The rest of us headed up Gruntsbury at a steady clip. From here we climbed upto the Traverse Track picking up te Rex as we rode. A good climb by everyone. Felt quite chipper at the top considering the rugby match the night before. Hit the traverse at a good clip regrouping at the halfway point. Waited for a posse to come by so we could get a good run in. Pumped from here to the top of Vic park, regrouping and discussing doing Marleys. Tinkerbell was all for every idea that came along so we let him decide, Yeah Right. Down Thompsons and then a great climb to the top of Marleys. Rode up Worsley Rd chatting to some visitors as I went. Set off down Marleys, Silverfox did not regroup and headed down early, just in case he got a puncture. Tried to chase Bugs and Tinks but they were flying, Dozer on my tail for the top half but he paused halfway to check on Helmut. Hit all the jumps, railed the berms and thouroghly exhausted myself coming down. Climbed back to the top of Vic before heading down through the rock garden, down Shazzas, through Brents before regrouping. Different riding down here forgetting how the track flows. Felt like a newbie. At the regroup Helmut fixed a flat I had a dump and then it was down bridges etc to the valley. Cool doing this track after so long. From here we turned right at the first lot of boulders and headed up hidden. Me stopping yet again for a moment. Regrouped at the top before one long blast down old skool. Fantastic run. Track in good condition. Regrouped at the gate, watching a guy wheel his broken Foes past. Frame split in two. Others stopped for coffee while I continued home to do some painting. Awesome ride.

Tuesday 10th April

Dozer turned up at Bugs place around 6.16pm and we headed around to Rubberjaws to meet up with Sandles. Headed quickly to the Rapaki as Sandles was complaining about being eaten at Rubberjaws (by the sand fly's) Nice cruse up Rapaki enjoying the look of the 3 runners in the dark. Regroup at the top just as it started to spit. Round the road to the Traverse with lovely views of the city lights. Bugs turned on his 2700 lumen of lights to dry the track for the others. Nice ride across the Traverse with one regroup half way round. Meet a big group of 7 at the top of Vic park. Sandles went down, from here. Dozer and Bug's then went back across the Traverse then over Mt Vernon to the top of the Rapaki. Down Rapaki at 56.9kmph. Meet some riders coming up who thought Bugs lights was a car coming down. Quick ride back across town to Bug's place arriving just as the rain started. Nice 21.50km ride and didn't see the fighting Bumble Bee anywhere. Bugs

Monday 9th April

Hopped up and drove over to pick up silverfox. We then headed up Worsley Rd to meet up with TeRex, Texas, Tinkerbell, Dozer and Phatboy. We headed up the dirt at a steady clip. I was happy with my ride only dabbing once before getting to the BodyBag. Te Rex led off followed by Tinks and Phatboy. I got 2/3rds of the way and went phizz. Jsut as te Rex came down for another loop. Phatboy stopped but got started and finished while Tinks also cleaned it. Up to the top of Marleys before attacking down the Nun. Awesome run down cleaning everything, taking some new lines and getting all the jumps. Well this was me, others obviously enjoyed other than Silverfox who had a tyre issue again!! The rest of us got down to the Kiwi before toodling up to hook up with the Fox at halfway. From here a nice climb to top of worsleys Rd before I headed down the bodybag at a blistering pace and then climbed up to the start of our good old B Line. I was here before the others actually came down the bag. I led off down the hill, loving it and cleaning all but one little bump. Regrouped at the rock look out before heading down again. Excellant run with all jumps cleaned and then we shot down the high line before climbing back up to do the lowline. This was awesome with me cleaning everything with absolutely no dabs. Felt good. We then climbed up and finished the track before heading to Zeros for coffee. it was great as Wee fee came to visit. Lovely chat before going home. I also did a loop of hagley with the Famdangly before the day was done.

Tuesday 3rd April

After showers in the afternoon and some thoughts that the first under lights ride would be called off, I headed around and picked up Silverfox then Sandals before heading up the tarmac of Worsleys passing a grunting body of riders. Bugs was there and shortly thereafter Tinkerbell arrived. We started the climb which surprisingly was not muddy at all. Just before the first stopping place Mellonfarmer called to see where we were. (Him and Nelsie had been on the track early so they chased us up the hill.) We also worked away some 4wd munters who were blocking the track. From here on lights were on and the track got greasier as we progressed. Dabbed a few times, had to stop a few times and curse and rode stuff that scared me. Silverfox was ahead of me and cursing the slippery slopes which caused him to struggle a bit. We regrouped at the bottom of the Bag. Nelsie and Mellonfarmer going up for a loop of Marleys. From what I hear it was greasy and not in ideal condition for riding. The rest of us climbed up to the beginning of Bline. Just this climb saw my wheel starting to spin. From here we rode on down. Greasy as in places dry and dusty in others, I rode some new lines others suggested enjoying them. Silverfox had a chest dab coming over one rock ride, (Sounded bad but he was up saying "I am ok" very quickly.) then we continued down. Enjoying immensely the dryness down here. At the gateway we headed back up the 4wd track and splitting into two groups came back down. Silverfox and I repeated the same stretch, with me hitting the jumps this time and flowing better while the others dropped down steepy section. regrouped at the gate then did the lower section and Sandals then took us down another path, which I thoroughly enjoyed before rejoining Worsely just before the tarmac. Home just after 8. Short but it was a ride.

Tuesday 27th march

Nearly pulled out of ride but ended up driving around and picking up Silverfox, then up to Sandals place to find she had already gone. Drove to the Kiwi and in short order Bugs, Tinkerbell and Dozer arrived. We headed up the road finding Sandals halfway up. From here we continued up to the top of the hill. We sorted out an order and headed down. Theres been some work done since last time I was up here. I had a very average ride with my mind not on the track. The others all seemed to be doing ok. At the middle point we headed out and climbed back to the top. I decided that I would head all the way down to the Kiwi while the others did another short loop. I found Silverfox just down the track with a puncture then nearly ran over Tinkerbell who is finding all sorts of problems with his bike (only because he has ridden a new bike) and then stopped to inform the rest about Silverfox and his flat. They headed up while I headed down. The track was so busy it was hard to find a gap. Good run down to the van. Silverfox showed up on foott due to yet another flat. Shortly the rest joined us and we headed home. Lights needed next week.

Sunday 25th March

SIlverfox texted to say Rubberjaws was taking The Cook to hospital as he was knocked off his bike Sat evening after one or two to many after the rugby. Silver fox then heading to my place for a lift to Dot Com. Meet Dozer, Sandles, Tinkerbell and then Phatboy. Lovely day for a ride. Was a day to ride all the tracks we were not to ride. Headed up Richmond Hill in a nice group then onto the farm track all the way to the top. Sorted into a order of some kind and started the decent down closed track 1, Bugs snapping his rear Derailleur cable that left him with a 2 speed, big and very big gear. Headed to the bottom where we meet on the road. Phatboy has done a roll in the long grass some where on the way but was fine. Everyone else seemed to have good bit's and not so good bits. Hit closed track 2,3 & 4 with no one clearing them all. Phatboy doing another roll and landing on his sore hands from some another mishap. Tinkerbell wished he had another 3 inches of wheel. Dozer had a few issues with every rock. Regroup at the top of closed track 5 and very quickly headed down till nearly at the beach. One rut still being a pain to some off us. It even had some mud in it this time. Off on closed track 6 with Sandles taking the lower line and all meeting up in the carpark at Taylors. Headed up the road, Bugs flying ahead in his big gear. Might use that gear more often as it was a lot quicker. Coffee at Dot com then home. Great ride

Tuesday 20th March

Silverfox arrived at mine and we loaded up and headed out to Taylors. Arrived 2 minutes early to find Dozer looking into the distance. Was he seeing anything is the question. We then heard Phatboy arrive with Scrapster Boy, Mellonfarmer and Nelsie, followed by Bugs and Texas. Rode over to the fence, clambered over it ignoring any signage and headed up the tail. Good climb on something I normally struggle with, regrouped at the bottom of the Snake before heading up. Good steady climb up here for all. of course we were spread out with the young bucks up front and the masters (or the steady climbers) at the rear. I enjoyed the climb up here which we have not done in soooooo long. regrouped at the road, and to ensure we got all the single track with enough light we headed around the road to Evans Pass. Nice steady climb before a bit of down. Up the single track of godley head. Phatboy cleaned everything. Others nearly got there. Great run around here although I dabbed on things I cleaned a couple of weeks back. Down to Livingstone Col then back up and around over the PFMTBC Rock to Breeze col and then down, down, down. Excellant run down for everyone, all pumped and wired. Silverfox excited to do this track again. Down the tail before climbing over the fence and chatting at the vehicles. Awesome Tuesday ride and back at the cars with just enough light.

Sunday 18th March

Many of the team not riding so Meet the keen ones at the end of the tarseal up the Worsley. There was Texas, Sandles, Dozer and of cause Bugs. Started the climb up though the gate and onto the 4WD track which got our hearts racing. Brilliant day for riding. Sun, no wind and a dry track. Stopped at the normal spots with some clearing most of the track and some having some problems. Hit the body bag just as the wind was picking up. Bug's cleared it with the others running into a few problems at different spots. Up to the top of the Nun. Sorted out the order, Dozer 1st to clear the way, followed closely by Bugs so he could film him, Texas was next followed by Sandles. Went all the way down, then back up the road for a 2nd run. Change of order this time. Texas 1st followed by Bugs on the camera with Dozer n Sandles not to far behind. Back up road to top of Body bag, quick run down here then into Bee line. Nice following ride down here till we meet the walkers having a picnic in the middle of the track. Dropped down the steep side with a couple of us riding it all except one cnr. Back up the farm track then down the last bit of track. Texas slid out on one cnr but no injury's this time. Back at cars round 12.15. Quick coffee then home by 1pm. Great, fun ride. Bugs

Thursday 16th March

Phatboy and Scrapster arrived and loaded myself and The Cook up. We headed over the hill to Allandale before riding into Living Springs. Scrapster and The Cook were both Virgins on this track so the first climb up the 4wd took their breath away. it took mine too!! Nice climb up through the trees to the top before coming on down. phatboy led. I did not have my eye in and was a bit slower than normal but still enjoyed. We regrouped at the rock before finishing the loop and grinding back up. It was a bit dim in the forest on the way up and pretty dark on the way down but we all made it safely. Much faster run this time, feeling better and pumping hard. With darkness falling we headed down the 4wd drive to the car. The cook laughing hysterically at one point as he went over a rutted section (no control) and made it in 1 piece. Good ride but night lights are rapidly approaching. Charge those batteries boys and girl, cos we gonna need them.

Sunday 11th March

The group at the bottom of the Snake.
A shower in the early hours sent panic through the ranks but by 8.30 all was looking good. Phatboy picked me up and we headed out to Dot Com. Met there by Twopot, Little Ivan with no helmitt, then Tinkerbell (with a loaner 29 to test) Dozer. Bugs, teaxas and finally Sandals with Helmut the Walker guy!! We all headed up Richmond Hill Rd at a steady but pace. Quite a few had not been on the bike for a few weeks due to war wounds. Up through the farm park via the 4wd track and onto the Summit Rd to the start of Greenwood. I was about to get to test the new stoppers. We followed Twopot around to the ruins where we did a quick regroup and then followed him down from there. He had a small off and I jumped in front followed by tinks. An awesome run all the way down from here. Brakes working good and as I got used to them found that i could brake later with great control. need to watch it though as they work so welll!! Cleaned both the rocks at the bottom. feeling pumped. Regrouped here before heading out on the Godley. Offically closed still but we were going to break the rules for the first time in 15 months as so many others have been doing. Blew the first rock although Tinks got it but we both cleaned the next section which was good. Steadily climbed around and up, dabbing once before blasting down to livingstone col. I had forgotten how quick you can travel down here. it was awesome. Regrouped before i led off up the next slope. At the top I dabbed on a rock and Tinks and Phatboy got the jump for the downhill. Fast and Furious was the order of the day. Finally got to hit the PFMTBC rock in anger. it rolled perfectly. Dozer took his own line over it and we all decided that his line is not the one to take. Time for the snake. I led off with others in hot pursuit. faster and faster we went and into the lower section with the big berms. Flying high on these then hard on the brakes first for mud then mud and rut but what an awesome run. High fives at the bottom. Did the tail which was in good nic too! Then the grind up from Taylors. Sandals went past connected to her 4wd driven by helmut. A cheat but looked good. A fast run down the road and back to Dot Com for coffee. Awesme fun ride.

Tuesday 6th March

As written by Bugs
Meet Marie, her son, Robin, Tony and Mark at car park at bottom of Flying Nun. Mark wasn't riding as he just had a operation on his neck from a past bike mishap. Wayne & Andy arrived just as we were about head off. Most of us rode up to the top with the odd person getting a lift from Mark. Started off 1st loop which was a very fast lap for most of us except for Tony who got a flatly. Rode back up for the 2nd loop with heaps of other riders doing the same thing. Started the second loop hot on the heals of Andy till the 2nd cnr when there was a pinging from the back wheel of the giant. Broken Spoke. Limped down to the car and cut the loose bit off with the tin snips in the car. 3rd loop was a full one down to Evans. Great fast trip of everyone. Good to do the full thing with no stopping. 4th loop was another flying run till just after the rocky section 3/4 way down. Someone was doing work on part of the track and had put a wheel borrow in the middle of the track to force everyone to take the B way. Problem was if was on a fast blind cnr with a 90 degree bend. Most managed to make it except for Wayne who cocked it up and ended up with a grazed knee and sore elbow. FInished the ride with a few Bears in the car park that Andy had brought. Great night on a great track. Bugs

Thursday 23rd Feb

Buggs and Mellonfarmer got a lift to the top of Mt Pleasant and rode Greenwood, some of Godley, and down through Britten and McCormacks. It was hot, windy as all hell, and fun. The trails were sweet, the rocks rocky and the downs downy. The ups werent too bad either. Farmer of Mellons had two fucking flats, due to slipped rimtape allowing spokehole puncturing, one at their turnaround point on Godley, in a gale wind, and one once they were back down in muntsville part of McCormacks Bay.

Sunday 19th February

Woke to a text from Tinkerbell suggesting that due to the weather we might sleep in. Dah what weather I said. It seems that not only does the ground get more damaged at his place but the weather gods do not like the neighbourhood either. We were gonna ride. Went and picked up Silverfox and Sandals before trundling over the hill and meeting up with Tinkerbell, Dozer and finally Phatboy at Allandale hall. Hopped on the bikes and rode into Living Springs. After a bit of Jostling to see who would open the gates we started the climb. The 4wd track is a little grunt but once we hit the single track it was sweet. Nice little climb with a few grunts but all the changes have made this track mint to climb. Then it was down the hill. A bit damp and slippery in a couple of spots but all sweet. A photo shoot at the rock near the bottom and then it was back to the climb. I had spotted where the race had jouned the 4wd track so we actually went down a bit and off piste to find the track. Just as grunty as the 4wd track but good to climb. Weather was causing the team to put their jackets back on so I continued up to the single track where we regrouped. Some other dude stopped to chat then Phatboy led off, the other dude then the rest of us. Regrouped at the top and then down we went. Stopped for another photo shoot then off we went. This time i did the little left turn and looked at the drop that Sandals has mentioned before. I took the B route but enjoyed the swoopy bit after this. Regrouped. I was keen for a third loop, (does not sound like me) as were a few others but the weather was still hovering so we climbed up part of the 4wd and then hooked into the downhill we rode up on the previous loop. I was feeling good and took a more difficult turn only to fly off my bike again. Phatboy says about 2 metres in the air. Landed on my bruised side form last week. Sore wrist but feeling ok. Continued down and out for coffee at Governors Bay pub. Must admit that wrist was bloody sore all night and a tad swollen.

Sunday 12th february

Drove over and picked up Silverfox and Sandals beofre heading out to kennedys Bush. Hooked up with Phatboy, Dozer, Tinkerbell and Mellonfarmer. mellonfarmer had to leave early so he had already been up for a loop. We headed in from the carpark and took the trail immediatelyt to the left. I had never been up here and I was surprised by how bloody steep it got. Pleasantly surprised by how good I climbed. Decided that my diet may in fact be helping me. Climbed up and then shot down the other side coming out by the bottom of the Crocidile. headed around and up the steep walk track on the other side. Once again we all climbed this well. Stopped and had a chat before doing the final Zig Zag to the road. Up we went overe then fence and into the single track still going up. One dab on the steep section (and I hear we all dabbed here) and then a fast run down Siberia. Oops where was Sandals. Tinks headed up one side and I headed up the four wheel drive to see if we could see her. I looked back and everyone was heading up the singletrack so I continued my way to the top. mellonfarmer eventually came out and as time was not on his side he wwent off towards the cars and home. All the others came up and we sorted an order and headed down. it was a good run. I was on Tinkerbells rear wheel and the dust was kicking up. Thought ok Rubberjaws back off a bit then I hit the track edge slid on some cow shit, went over the handlebars and thumped firmly into the ground. oooopppsss fuck. The others all stopped to check on me. I was a bit sore everywhere and after a while we all headed down, me tail ending. Regrouped at the top of Crocodile. Then headed down. Me not quite so fast. Sandals had tyre issues and I was feeling quite sore so we went back to the cars and waited while the others did another loop. Sandals then put on coffee for the boyz. Great day and the gtreat knews is that I am fine. Bruising and feeling sad I fell off.

Sunday 29th January

I picked up Silverfox and Sandals and headed out to meet with the others at Halswell School. We arrived to find, Tinkerbell, Dozer and Bugs all raring to go. Shortly there after Phatboy and the little huxter arrived. In convoy we headed off towards McQueens valley for a tour of Haven MTB Park. Shailer met us at the end of the shingle rd that leads into his place. A short sharp uphill to get us warmed up and breathing properly to start with, then it was downhill for a ways after passing hi main gate. We got to ride up the driveway later as you will see. Any how we continued down to the carpark of the park. Shailer led us around the tracks down here. Some have been there for a while others are quite knew and all are best described as sort of cross country with ups and downs, twists and turns. Some of the older berms are riding sweetly and the knewer ones will settle down. Although it was a pump over knew tracks I thoroughly enjoyed myself as we went around the tracks first one way then the other. great potential in here. Phatboy managed to break a chain, followed by a quick repair. Lisa (Shailers partner) was amongst the trails getting photos of us all (when I get copies I will post some on here) looking good. After a few loops we headed back up the road and then up the drive. A little steep number with a couple of switchbacks. At the house we hung a left onto a track called Chickenrun which is hand built across the face of the hill. Great track. A few of us took a wrong turn but we all ended up at the same place, returning along Chicken Run before going up a ZigZag to do another trail, down we went then back up and down. Due to time constraints we had to pull out, Phatboy had broken the chain again and had departed one loop earlier. From the house it was downhill all the way back to the cars. I for one thoroughly enjoyed myself and can see heaps of potential at the park. The others spoken to all enjoyed themselves. We will be back and for $15 for a years membership will certainly be joining up. Big thanks to Shailer and Lisa.
